A rapidly growing, project-based professional services organization is seeking a Corporate Controller to lead day-to-day accounting, billing, payroll, and revenue-cycle operations. This is a newly expanded leadership opportunity with significant visibility and the chance to help build the finance infrastructure of a fast-growing organization.
About the Role
The Corporate Controller will lead daily accounting, billing, payroll, and revenue-cycle activities, manage and develop the accounting and billing team, oversee project-based invoicing and related client requirements, and drive improvements in systems, controls, and workflows while helping transition the organization toward a more mature accrual-based accounting environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead daily accounting, billing, payroll, and revenue-cycle activities
- Manage and develop the accounting and billing team
- Oversee project-based invoicing, customer requirements, POs, collections, and change orders
- Review proposals and invoices for accuracy, contract compliance, and appropriate supporting documentation
- Monitor project funding and identify upcoming billing or change-order requirements
- Resolve complex billing, accounting, payroll, and client issues
- Oversee biweekly and off-cycle payroll for a multi-state workforce
- Review reconciliations, journal entries, expenses, bank activity, and financial reporting
- Strengthen month-end close, internal controls, documentation, and segregation of duties
- Help transition the organization toward a more mature accrual-based accounting environment
- Lead finance, billing, payroll, and workflow-system implementations
- Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement
- Establish clear processes, ownership, deadlines, and backup coverage across the finance function
Qualifications
- 10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience
- Prior Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior accounting leadership experience
- Ability to work fully on-site in Tustin, CA
Required Skills
- Experience leading accounting operations, payroll, and billing/revenue-cycle functions
- Experience with project-based billing, POs, change orders, collections, and reimbursable expenses
- Strong understanding of multi-state payroll; ADP Workforce Now experience preferred
- Experience implementing or significantly improving ERP, accounting, billing, payroll, or workflow systems
- Strong accounting fundamentals, including reconciliations, journal entries, controls, and financial reporting
- Strong Excel and systems aptitude
Preferred Skills
- Background in construction, engineering, consulting, professional services, or another project-based environment strongly preferred
- CPA preferred, but not required
- We're looking for someone who is highly hands-on, responsive, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment
- The successful candidate will be willing to get into the details, solve problems independently, communicate clearly, and then build processes that prevent those issues from recurring
Salary : $150,000 - $175,000
