Certified Recovery Mentor (Residential)

The Certified Recovery Mentor provides peer support and guidance to support to clients and their families receiving treatment services for substance use disorders at ARC. As a vital member of our treatment team, the CRM serves as a role model and mentor, drawing upon personal experience in recovery to inspire and motivate clients. This position requires a compassionate and empathetic approach, with a commitment to promoting a supportive and nurturing environment conducive to sustained recovery. As an individual who has self-identified as a person in recovery, the Certified Recovery Mentor utilizes self-disclosure and personal experiences to enhance the value of the service. This role serves as a recovery role model and is expected to demonstrate a solid recovery lifestyle, active engagement in the recovery community, and values aligned with recovery principles.

Activities and duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Program Administration:

• Build rapport and trust with clients by sharing personal experiences and insights related to recovery.
• Provide emotional support, encouragement, and motivation to clients throughout their treatment journey.
• Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating healthy coping mechanisms, effective communication skills, and proactive problem-solving strategies.
• Facilitate group discussions, workshops, and educational sessions on topics relevant to recovery and wellness.
• Advocate for clients' needs and preferences within the treatment program and broader community.
• Assist clients in accessing resources and support services, including housing, employment, healthcare, and peer support groups.
• Collaborate with clinical staff to develop individualized treatment plans and goals based on clients' strengths and challenges.
• Provide immediate support and assistance during crisis situations, such as relapse, emotional distress, or conflicts with peers.
• Provide evidence-based services and referrals in line with recognized CRM/PSS models.
• Develop and maintain a peer caseload based on agency referrals.
• Track billable service delivery hours and provide direct support and referrals based on individual needs.
• Deliver education components to clients, families, and public forums, covering various life skills topics.
• Provide timely updates on client progress and communicate with treatment team referral sources.
• Utilize de-escalation techniques and active listening skills to help clients navigate challenging circumstances and develop coping strategies.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of client interactions, progress, and outcomes.
• Complete required documentation, including incident reports, progress notes, and treatment plans, in a timely manner.
• Communicate effectively with clinical staff and supervisors regarding client observations, concerns, and recommendations.
• Stay informed about best practices, emerging trends, and evidence-based interventions in the field of substance use disorder treatment.
• Attend:

The listed scope of work is not exhaustive and other duties may be assigned, within the scope, knowledge, skills of the position and based upon the needs of the department and Agency.

Education/Licensure Required:

• High school diploma or GED.
• CRM (Certified Recovery Mentor) or PSS (Peer Support Specialist) certification.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

• Personal experience with addiction and successful long-term recovery (minimum of 2 years).
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Empathy, compassion, and a nonjudgmental attitude towards individuals with substance use disorders.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborating with clinical staff, peers, and community partners.
• Ability to handle sensitive situations with a trauma-informed approach.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
• Proficiency in providing emotional and informational support to individuals in recovery.
• Familiarity with evidence-based practices and theories of addiction treatment and recovery support.
• Sensitivity to diverse client populations and trauma-informed care principles.
• Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems is a plus.
