What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intern position at Addiction Treatment Services?
A. General Issues:
1. It is necessary to establish policies and procedures to provide a framework for student internships to ensure that a high-quality care for ATS' clients is maintained.
2. It is recognized that students will present with a wide range of experiences and education. To address the wide variety of needed experiences ATS has established a two tier internship. Students working on BA/BS or substance abuse credentialing will shadow, observe, and be supervised. Tier two students will be working on a MA/MSW in human services field and will experience supervised clinical, clinically independent activities, and supervision.
3. The procedures that follow are designed to encompass this range.
B. Responsibilities of ATS:
1. Prior to a student being accepted as part of the treatment team at ATS, s/he will interview with the designated supervisor to ensure mutual compatibility. This will be communicated to the sending school as well as the clinical director. (Both tiers)
2. Each student will meet with the Personnel Manager who will review the liability insurance information. Each student is covered by ATS' liability insurance. (Both Tiers)
3. Each student will be assigned a supervisor, who has the credentials and capacity to provide adequate supervision and instruction that meets the sending school's requirements. (Both tiers)
4. ATS will ensure the student abides by all federal confidentiality laws. Each student will be given an orientation by his or her supervisor on these laws, as well as a copy of the laws for them read and to sign off on as having read them. (Both Tiers)
5. Students of both tiers will provide lien information for Michigan Department of Corrections Lien Check when applicable.
6. Tier Two students will complete a clinical application to Michigan Behavioral Care Network (MBCN)
C. Clinical Practicum/Studentship Criteria
In compliance with the Michigan Behavioral Care Network (MBCN) Student Intern Policy, at the very least, all students are to engage in Clinical Readiness
1. Activities and Directly Supervised Activities prior to providing Clinically Independent Activities. (Tier Two)
2. It is the responsibility of the supervisor to document conformance through his or her signature that verifies competence prior to permitting the student to progress to the next level of activity. (Both Tiers)
