About the Role:

The PRN Behavioral Health Technician plays a critical role in supporting individuals experiencing mental health challenges by providing direct care and assistance under the supervision of clinical staff. This position focuses on implementing treatment plans, conducting clinical assessments, and ensuring the safety and well-being of patients in various behavioral health settings. The technician is responsible for crisis intervention and management, helping to de-escalate situations and provide immediate support during episodes of emotional or behavioral distress. Additionally, the role involves maintaining accurate and thorough clinical documentation to support continuity of care and discharge planning. Ultimately, the Behavioral Health Technician contributes to improving patient outcomes by fostering a therapeutic environment and collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a Behavioral Health Technician training program or relevant certification is required.
  • Experience in clinical documentation and patient care within a mental health or behavioral health setting.
  • Knowledge of crisis management and intervention techniques.
  • Ability to perform clinical assessments and contribute to discharge planning.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working with children or adults with Severe Emotional Disturbance (SED).
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Additional training or certification in trauma-informed care or de-escalation techniques.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in conducting clinical assessments and monitoring patient behavior to inform treatment plans.
  • Provide direct patient care, including support with daily living activities and therapeutic interventions.
  • Implement crisis intervention techniques to manage and de-escalate behavioral emergencies effectively.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate clinical documentation, including progress notes and incident reports.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop and execute individualized discharge plans.
  • Support patients with Severe Emotional Disturbance (SED) by applying specialized care strategies.
  • Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment by adhering to established protocols and guidelines.

Skills:

The required skills such as clinical documentation and maintaining accurate records are essential for ensuring continuity of care and legal compliance. Crisis management and crisis intervention skills are applied daily to respond promptly and effectively to behavioral emergencies, ensuring patient and staff safety. Clinical assessments enable the technician to monitor patient progress and communicate changes to the care team, directly influencing treatment adjustments. Knowledge of mental health conditions and discharge planning supports the technician in preparing patients for transitions out of care, promoting long-term stability. Preferred skills like familiarity with electronic health records and trauma-informed care enhance the technician’s ability to deliver compassionate, efficient, and coordinated care in a dynamic clinical environment.
