The opportunity
Adda Clevenger School seeks a warm, capable, and highly organized full-time Transitional Kindergarten teacher for its Presidio campus. The teacher will lead a small class of three- and four-year-olds in an academically purposeful, arts-rich program that gives physical, social, emotional, and developmental needs the highest priority.
This is an excellent role for an early-childhood educator who believes young children can be both joyful and intellectually curious—and who knows that readiness looks different at age three than it does at age four.
About the TK program
Adda Clevenger is an independent TK-8 school whose child-centered, experiential program is inspired by John Dewey. TK students participate in a developmentally appropriate version of the school’s integrated academic and arts program, including language arts, math, science, social studies, civility, art, music, dance, movement, and physical education.
The Presidio campus extends the classroom into a national park. Outdoor exploration, observation, movement, and place-based learning should be regular parts of the children’s experience.
What you will do
· Plan and teach engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction in early literacy, language, mathematics, science, social studies, and civility.
· Differentiate the same themes and learning goals for children in distinct developmental phases: younger students building self-help skills, fine-motor control, routines, and independence; and older students moving toward collaborative learning and structured kindergarten readiness.
· Create a classroom culture that is calm, joyful, structured, inclusive, and responsive to individual needs.
· Incorporate art, music, dance, dramatic play, storytelling, movement, sensory experience, and outdoor exploration into daily instruction.
· Observe and document student growth; communicate clearly with families through conferences, reports, and regular updates.
· Collaborate closely with classroom assistants, specialist teachers, administrators, and colleagues across the school.
· Participate fully in school life, including arrival and dismissal, lunch and playground supervision, field trips, performances, family events, meetings, and occasional substitute coverage.
The strongest candidates will bring
· A bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, or a related field.
· At least two years of successful lead-teaching experience in preschool, TK, kindergarten, or the primary grades.
· Strong knowledge of early-childhood development and the ability to distinguish age-appropriate challenge from inappropriate acceleration.
· Excellent classroom management, observation, planning, organization, and family-communication skills.
· A collaborative, flexible, and professional approach, with genuine warmth and respect for young children.
· A California teaching credential or equivalent is preferred. Early-childhood coursework and experience in an independent school are also valued.
