The opportunity
Adda Clevenger School seeks a creative, accomplished, and highly organized full-time Theater Arts Teacher to teach students in grades K-8 and help lead a central part of the school's integrated performing-arts program. This is a hands-on teaching and production role for an educator who can build confident communicators, imaginative collaborators, and disciplined performers.
About Adda Clevenger
Adda Clevenger is an independent TK-8 school with an integrated arts-and-academics program inspired by the child-centered experiential philosophy of John Dewey. Theater supports the school's broader goal of developing confident, attentive, expressive, and capable communicators.
What you will do
· Teach sequential, age-appropriate Theater Arts classes for students in grades K-8.
· Develop students' voices, bodies, imaginations, presence, listening, collaboration, acting, speech, and public-presentation skills.
· Select, adapt, devise, rehearse, and stage material that balances broad participation with high artistic standards.
· Maintain a coherent theater curriculum and collaborate with music, dance, visual arts, classroom teachers, and technical staff on integrated performances.
· Participate fully in school life, including supervision, meetings, field trips, family events, performances, and occasional evening or weekend commitments.
The strongest candidates will bring
· A bachelor's degree in theater education, theater, drama, directing, performance, or a related field, and at least two years of successful teaching, directing, or substantial youth-theater experience.
· Strong acting, directing, rehearsal, classroom-management, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
· A developmentally informed approach that welcomes beginners, challenges experienced performers, and gives every student a purposeful role in the ensemble.
· Experience with devised theater, speech and debate, musical theater, stage management, or theater technology is highly valued; a teaching credential is preferred.
