Home Energy Auditor Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Home Energy Auditor to join our team. The ideal candidate will assess residential properties to identify opportunities for improving energy efficiency, reducing utility costs, and increasing overall home comfort. This role combines technical expertise with strong communication skills to provide homeowners with actionable recommendations and support for energy-saving solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive on-site energy audits of residential homes.
- Inspect and evaluate building envelope components, including insulation, windows, doors, HVAC systems, ductwork, and lighting.
- Perform diagnostic testing such as blower door tests, duct leakage tests, and infrared thermography (if applicable).
- Collect, analyze, and document energy usage data.
- Prepare clear, detailed audit reports with recommendations for cost-effective improvements.
- Educate homeowners on energy efficiency measures, potential rebates, incentives, and available financing programs.
- Stay current on industry best practices, building science principles, and state/federal energy efficiency programs.
- Collaborate with contractors, utility providers, and program administrators when necessary.
Qualifications (desired but not required):
- High school diploma or equivalent required; or associate/bachelor’s degree in environmental science, construction management, building technology, or related field preferred.
- Experience in residential construction, HVAC, or energy efficiency strongly preferred.
- Certification(s) such as BPI (Building Performance Institute), RESNET HERS Rater, or equivalent desirable.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to homeowners.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, data collection software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
Working Conditions
- Field-based role with regular travel to customer homes.
- Requires climbing ladders, entering crawl spaces/attics, and carrying equipment up to 40 lbs.
- Flexible hours may be required based on customer appointments.
