Position Overview
Our client, a leading global automotive manufacturer, is seeking a Prototype Quality Technician to support its Vehicle Prototype Department. This role is responsible for supporting prototype quality activities within Research & Development (R&D) by performing advanced 3D scanning, dimensional inspection, and measurement of prototype vehicles, components, and tooling.
Reporting to the Weld and Paint Manager, you will play a key role in supporting North American product development and vehicle evaluation programs by ensuring prototype assemblies meet engineering and quality requirements.
Responsibilities
- Operate ZEISS Blue Light, ATOS, and FARO measurement equipment to inspect body-in-white assemblies, prototype components, tooling, weldments, jigs, and fixtures.
- Perform dimensional inspections and generate detailed measurement reports to verify build quality, dimensional accuracy, and engineering conformance.
- Create, develop, and maintain digital measurement plans using CAD models and engineering data.
- Support prototype vehicle builds and assist engineering teams with measurement requests and quality investigations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and prototype teams to support changing project priorities.
- Maintain accurate inspection documentation and measurement records.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives related to prototype quality and dimensional validation.
Required Qualifications
- Experience performing weldment, jig, fixture, or tooling measurement and 3D scanning.
- Minimum 2 years of experience using CAD software such as:
- CATIA
- Siemens NX (Unigraphics)
- Creo
- SolidWorks
- or similar CAD platforms
- Minimum 2 years of experience creating measurement plans from CAD models and engineering data.
- Strong understanding of dimensional inspection, GD&T, and prototype quality processes.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities while supporting multiple engineering and prototype activities.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and customer-focused problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in Metrology, Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience using ZEISS, ATOS, or FARO metrology systems.
- Experience using KPIs to monitor quality performance and process improvements.
- Knowledge of Quality Circle activities, Toyota Business Practices (TBP), or other structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Automotive prototype, manufacturing, or vehicle development experience preferred.
