What are the responsibilities and job description for the Farm Laborer position at Adams Produce Inc?
Drive buses from housing to and from worksites. Hand pick quality (mature) green chile from plants into buckets (10 gallon). Worker will carry full bucket and chile and walk to trailer to dump into trailer and back.. Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds. Worker must be able to work in diverse weather conditions (hot, dry, cold, wet, windy, and dew moisture). Able to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, walk across fields carrying 60 pound buckets and other related activities. Weed crops with a hoe. Onion topping: while on hands and knees, pull onions from soil, cut roots and top with shears, place in bucket, carry full 50 lb bucket to bin to carefully unload bucket. Sort onions in on-farm packing house. Transplant and thin chile crop. Connect and/or repair drip irrigation, pipe and tape. Maintain drip systems: clean lines and emitters, turn systems on and off. Drive tractors between field and shed with harvested chiles. Drive buses from housing to and from worksites. Assist in minor repair of equipment such as tractors, implements, and irrigation systems.
All tools and equipment will be provided by employer at no cost to workers.
Food Safety program is implemented and all workers are required to follow noted personal practices during the harvest of fresh vegetables.
Drug, alcohol, and tobacco-free work zone: The use or possession or being under the influence of illegal drugs or alcohol during working time is prohibited. Failure to comply with the request or testing positive may result in immediate termination.
Company Employee Safety and Hygiene Policies: Employees will be trained on Basic Pesticide Safety Information; Personal Practices Policy; GAP Contractor Rules & Regulations; Allergen Awareness Policies; Foreign Material, Animal Intrusion/Blood Pathogens Policy; Heat Stress protective guidelines. Each hired worker will receive by the first day of work, a copy of the Employee Handbook outlining such policies and procedures. Worker is responsible to read thoroughly the information provided, and to seek assistance of a Farm Manager for questions or clarity.
