SPECIAL EDUCATION JOB COACH PARAEDUCATOR
Location: Adams High School
7 hours per day, 5 days per week: Monday – Friday
SALARY: $17.48/hour. The hourly wage will be paid from the Instructional Classification Schedule per the Rochester Paraeducator Association (RPEA) Master Agreement.
CLASSIFICATION: SPECIAL EDUCATION
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or recognized equivalent. Must meet all applicable federal, state, intermediate school district, and district requirements for employment as a special education paraeducator.
- Experience working with students or individuals with disabilities, or training in appropriate instructional, behavioral, communication, or support techniques, preferred.
- Experience supporting special education transition services, community-based instruction, work-based learning, career preparation, or related vocational programs preferred
- Demonstrated ability to maintain the confidentiality of student, family, personnel, and program information and to interact professionally and effectively with students, staff, families, employers, and community partners.
- Ability to interact with students in an age-appropriate and respectful manner and to model and reinforce workplace readiness, professional conduct, independence, self-advocacy, and appropriate social behavior.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel, and other district-approved student information, instructional, documentation, communication, and assistive technology tools.
- Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance; flexibility in responding to changing student, program, transportation, and worksite needs; and the ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Self-motivation and the ability to work independently within established procedures, student plans, and assigned responsibilities while maintaining regular communication with designated supervisory and certified staff.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Designated building or program administrator.
RECEIVES DAY-TO-DAY DIRECTION FROM: Work-Based Learning Coordinator, Transition Coordinator, Teacher Consultant, special education teacher, classroom teacher, or other designated certified staff.
CALENDAR: Follows the approved paraeducator work calendar and assigned daily schedule. Work hours, locations, and assignments may be adjusted based on student and program needs, consistent with applicable agreements, policies, and wage-and-hour requirements.
SUPERVISES: No employees.
SUPPORTS: Assigned students participating in approved community-based work sites, in-building work placements, work-based learning activities, or the PAES Lab under the direction of designated certified and administrative staff.
JOB GOAL: To support the implementation of district-approved special education transition, career-readiness, and work-based learning services by providing individualized job coaching, monitoring, documentation, and assistance to assigned students at school-based and approved community work sites.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implements and reinforces work-based learning activities and functional academic skills in accordance with curriculum, student plans, and instructions established by designated certified staff.
- Observes and documents student strengths, needs, progress, and barriers; communicates relevant information to designated certified staff; and implements approved instructional strategies, accommodations, modifications, and workplace supports.
- Develops clear, student-friendly job descriptions, task lists, visual supports, or step-by-step instructions that explain the duties and expectations of each student’s assigned work tasks, in collaboration with designated certified staff and worksite personnel.
- Establishes and maintains professional, collaborative relationships with worksite staff, employers, community partners, district employees, students, and families while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
- Models and reinforces age-appropriate workplace behavior, professional communication, dependability, self-advocacy, problem-solving, independence, and appropriate interactions with supervisors, coworkers, and customers.
- Follows all district, program, and worksite safety, sanitation, hygiene, health, and emergency procedures; ensures students use required personal protective equipment and approved safety practices; and immediately reports hazards, injuries, incidents, or unsafe conditions.
- Regularly obtains feedback from worksite personnel, monitors student performance and completion of assigned tasks, provides coaching and corrective feedback consistent with approved plans, and communicates concerns or needed adjustments to designated certified staff.
- Maintains regular and timely communication with designated teachers, the Work-Based Learning or Transition Coordinator, Teacher Consultant, worksite personnel, transportation staff, and program administrators while protecting confidential student information.
- Accurately and timely completes assigned records and documentation in accordance with district procedures, including, as applicable:
- Student attendance and participation records
- Employee work time, travel time, and assigned supervision records
- Daily assignment, task, and progress-monitoring forms
- Data and observations used by certified staff for periodic student progress reviews
- Documentation required by approved behavior intervention or support plans
- Emergency and medical information provided by authorized staff
- Worksite, placement, and training agreements
- Incident, injury, safety, or transportation reports
- Other documentation required by the district or student’s educational program
- Implements task-analysis and instructional-support procedures established or approved by designated certified staff, including:
- Reviewing and clarifying assigned job tasks
- Breaking tasks into teachable steps
- Modeling and prompting task completion
- Implementing approved adaptations, accommodations, and assistive tools
- Collecting data on student performance and independence
- Systematically reducing prompts and direct support as directed and as the student demonstrates increased independence
- Reporting concerns or recommending that certified staff review the support plan
- Monitors and promptly communicates student transportation concerns and follows established district procedures for transportation delays, missed transportation, schedule changes, student handoffs, and emergencies.
- Performs other duties consistent with the purpose, qualifications, and responsibilities of the classification as assigned by the designated administrator or supervisor.
