Job Title: Controller – Custom Millwork Shop
Location: North Port, Florida
Department: Finance/Accounting
Reports To: CAO
Position Summary
The Controller will oversee the financial operations of our custom millwork shop, ensuring accurate financial reporting and effective management of accounts payable/receivable. This role is responsible for creating and explaining financial statements and ensuring compliance with all applicable labor and accounting regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Management & Reporting:
- Prepare, analyze, and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Explain financial performance and variances to management.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and relevant labor and accounting regulations.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable:
- Manage and reconcile accounts payable and receivable.
- Oversee billing, collections, and vendor payment processes.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure timely processing of transactions.
- System Management & Process Improvement:
- Utilize QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite to maintain and report on financial data.
- Develop and implement internal controls and processes to safeguard assets and improve operational efficiency.
- Assist in the annual budgeting process and financial forecasting.
- Compliance & Audit:
- Ensure adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local labor laws and accounting standards.
- Prepare documentation for audits and support audit activities as required.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an accounting or financial management role, preferably in a manufacturing or custom millwork environment.
- Proven experience in managing accounts payable/receivable, procurement, and inventory receiving processes.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Strong financial analysis and reporting skills.
- Familiarity with GAAP and labor law compliance.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive mindset.
Working Conditions
- This role is primarily office-based within a custom millwork shop environment.
- Occasional visits to the production or receiving areas may be required.
- Must comply with all company safety protocols and applicable labor laws.
