Academic Instructor - Math/Reading/Science/Social Studies 1

The Academic Instructor is responsible for providing reading, math, science, and social studies instruction and training to students in the Career Education Center. This individual will develop individual achievement plans and academic goals to ensure student academic achievement in the program. Works with the Career Trade Instructors to infuse applied academics into technical training curricula to enhance student learning and success.

SALARY: $55k annually

SCHEDULE: M-F, 7:45am-4:45pm (year round)

We support the Job Corps program’s mission to teach eligible young people the skills they need to become employable and independent and place them in meaningful jobs or further education. Our center specializes in Culinary Arts, Welding, Electronics Engineering, and Certified Medical Assistant training.

Job Responsibilities:

• Responsible to provide students with reading instruction leading to GED or high school diploma completion and improved literacy and skills
• Provides students with comprehensive and individualized case management that ensures student progress, achievement and completion of the Job Corps program
• Ensures classroom is well organized and conducive to student learning
• Holds students accountable for following Center's dress code/behavioral standards of conduct
• Produces quality work/assignments in a thorough, timely and accurate manner
• Maintains appropriate personal attendance, accountability and work productivity standards
• Plans, prioritizes and organizes assignments to meet established goals and deadlines
• Understands and applies job knowledge to effectively complete all required job responsibilities
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school required, Master’s degree preferred
• Valid RIDE teaching certificate required (candidates with a Praxis exam date will be considered)
• Previous teaching or Job Corps experience strongly preferred
• Physical requirements include sitting, standing, climbing, walking, lifting, pulling and/or pushing, carrying, reaching, stooping, and crouching
