What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commercial Division Manager position at Adam Vaillancourt Roofing?
Adam Vaillancourt Roofing is New England's largest residential roofer, built on four core values: Hungry, Excellence, Authentic, and Love for People. Now we're building a commercial roofing division, and we need the right person to lead it.
To be clear up front: this is early. Today, the division is you. You'll sell the work, estimate it, and make sure it's installed right. As the business grows, you'll hire the salespeople and project managers who report to you. You'll have the backing of our brand and back office, plus the freedom to build the commercial side the right way.
The Role: Now and Later
Year 1: Sell, estimate, and deliver. You are the division's seller, estimator, and installation expert. Our residential operation supports you with scheduling, purchasing, marketing, finance, and HR.
- Build a pipeline from both internal leads provided to you and prospects you develop with property managers, facility directors, building owners, general contractors, churches, schools, and HOAs.
- Walk roofs, take core samples, and recommend the right solution: repair, restore, recover, or replace.
- Build accurate estimates, present proposals, close the work, and keep the relationship for future projects.
- Run installs from contract to closeout. Direct crews and subcontractors, and own quality, OSHA safety, warranty requirements, and budget.
- Co-write the division plan with the General Manager in your first 90 days.
Years 2 to 3: Build the team. As revenue grows, you hire and develop commercial salespeople and project managers and step back from running every job. You'll recommend equipment, systems, and subcontractor relationships, and train AVR crews on low-slope standards.
Long term: Lead the division. You own the commercial P&L, lead your team, and report results to senior leadership, including in our weekly leadership meetings.
What We'll Build With You
- A written division plan with revenue milestones, hiring triggers, and an equipment budget, created together in your first 90 days and reviewed quarterly.
- Hiring tied to agreed revenue levels, so you know when the team grows.
- Investment in tools as the plan supports them.
- Compensation that rewards both selling the work and delivering it well.
- Regular one-on-ones with the General Manager.
What You Bring
Must have
- 5 years selling commercial roofing, with a track record of closing work you found yourself.
- Hands-on installation expertise: you've installed, run crews on, or directly managed commercial roof installs.
- Strong system knowledge: TPO, EPDM, PVC, modified bitumen, and standing seam metal.
- Accurate estimating, including take-offs, labor, materials, and subcontractor pricing.
- Working knowledge of manufacturer warranty programs, OSHA fall protection, and New England building codes.
- A builder's mindset and values that match ours.
- Valid driver's license.
Nice to have
- 7 years of commercial roofing experience.
- Metal fabrication skills: roll forming, seaming, and custom trim.
- Experience growing a commercial division or branch, or hiring and leading sales or project management staff.
- Relationships with New England property managers, GCs, or facility directors.
- Manufacturer certifications (e.g., Carlisle, GAF, Holcim, Johns Manville) and OSHA 30.
Is This You?
A fit if you want ownership, you'd rather build than inherit, and you're happy to be on the roof and in the sales meeting while the division is small.
Not a fit if you want a large team on day one, prefer to only sell or only manage projects, or need a fully defined structure before you start.
