Director of Engineering

We are working with a leading industrial materials organization seeking a Director of Engineering to lead capital project development, engineering execution, and operational support across multiple aggregate production facilities.
This role is responsible for overseeing division-wide engineering activities, managing a team of project engineers, and partnering closely with operations to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective plant improvements. Experience within aggregates, mining, or heavy industrial processing environments is essential.
Target Compensation (DOE): $190,000 - $230,000 Short Term Incentive & Long Term Incentive, Bonus Company Vehicle for Travel Company Benefits.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead division-level capital development efforts, supporting process design, equipment specification, layouts, estimates, and project narratives
- Manage and mentor a team of project engineers, guiding project execution and professional development
- Oversee project estimating, cost tracking, scheduling, procurement, and construction execution
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders including operations, environmental, safety, mine planning, procurement, electrical, rail, and finance groups
- Provide engineering and technical support to operating facilities, including troubleshooting “plant down” events and reliability issues
- Support repairs, maintenance planning, and process improvement initiatives across multiple sites
- Conduct routine site visits to support operations, engineering reviews, and continuous improvement efforts
- Ensure engineering work complies with company standards, safety requirements, and industry best practices
What We're Looking For
- 15 years of experience in a heavy industrial, mining, aggregates, or civil/mechanical engineering environment
- Extensive experience with aggregate production facilities, including crushing, screening, conveying, washing, and material handling systems
- Strong leadership experience managing engineering teams and large capital portfolios
- Hands-on experience with project execution in operating plant environments
- Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering (or related discipline with relevant industry experience)
Technical Experience & Knowledge
- Structural steel, concrete, and industrial plant systems design
- Aggregate process flow and material handling systems
- General knowledge of pumping, electrical, and plant automation systems
- Strong project controls, budgeting, and execution discipline
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and standard engineering/project documentation tools
Location & Travel
This role is based in Jacksonville, Florida, with regular travel (up to 40%) to support regional operating sites and capital project execution.
