What are the responsibilities and job description for the Outreach Specialist-Graphics Design position at Ada Community Library?
Hours: 24 hours per week
Summary
The Outreach Specialist connects the library and its resources to District community members who may not otherwise easily access them. This position will focus on graphic design. This person will primarily create visually appealing and engaging materials to promote library services and events by applying branding principles and collaborating with staff to understand their needs.
Essential Job Functions
PRIMARY FUNCTION- Area of Specialty
· Uses publishing software, graphic design tools, and online content creation platforms to produce visually appealing library materials and marketing collateral for digital and print distribution.
· Responsible for oversight of a streamlined image in the library's signage and promotional materials across all branches.
· Fields design requests from library staff for marketing collateral, signage, merchandise, and more.
· Oversees design work of other staff to ensure quality control and consistency. This includes building templates for staff to use, tutorials to educate and assist staff and providing some hands-on training for fellow staff, as well as reviews and approvals.
· Works with the Marketing Specialist to ensure consistency with the library’s branding and messaging across all platforms.
· Works with the Webmaster to ensure quality control on the website.
SECONDARY FUNCTION- As needed
Service Delivery:
· Provides library services by working at community sites around the District. Will work at different Ada Community Library branches as needed. Services include, but are not limited to, checking in/out materials, issuing library cards, reader’s advisory, reference services, instruction & technical assistance, updating/reconciling patron accounts, informing of library policies/procedures, and addressing concerns.
· Drives library vehicles (ConnectMobiles) to predetermined locations all over the District in order to provide services to remote patrons throughout the District.
Program Development:
· Plans, coordinates, schedules, implements, and evaluates outreach programs and events for all ACL branches specifically designed to reach and serve underserved or non-traditional library users of all ages.
· Writes or participates in grant writing for needed materials, services or programs.
Partnership Building:
· Develops and maintains partnerships with outside agencies, community organizations and other groups to expand the reach of library services for all ages by providing and coordinating programs, training, and other services.
Promotion:
· Promotes library use, programs/events and services through participation in community events, displays, presentations, booklists, training materials, communications and publicity distribution.
· Collaborates with marketing/design staff to develop effective marketing materials and/or work on special projects.
Advocacy:
· Advocates for the needs of their communities and for improvements in library outreach policies and practices by collecting statistics, preparing reports, and making recommendations on specific areas of library service.
Minimum Qualifications
· Graphic Design Area of Specialty: Must be proficient in industry standard software like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Experience in Canva is a plus. A solid understanding of design principles and concepts for creating engaging visuals is essential. Understanding of the printing process and best practices in designing both print media and digital media including working with different color models and image file formats. Experience working with promotional products suppliers, getting quotes, and following design specs. Ability to maintain professional growth and awareness through training, self-directed learning and other means to stay abreast of current and emerging trends in area of expertise.
· Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of relevant experience (library experience preferred) or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.
· Leadership characteristics including initiative, innovative and visionary thinking, willingness to take on responsibilities, adaptability, problem solving, decision making, and positive role modeling behaviors.
· Strong customer service, organizational and time management skills.
· Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment.

· Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
· Ability to operate and perform basic troubleshooting of technology, office equipment, and computer systems including hardware and software (e.g. Google applications, electronic databases, email, and internet).
· Knowledge of a library’s collection, reference materials and general library policies, practices.
· Must have flexibility and adaptability to work in a changing, public-facing environment.
· Must be able to work at any ACL branch and community location with the ability to get to these sites when scheduled. On occasion may work at more than one location in a day.
· Must have flexibility in scheduling to meet community needs. This could include some evenings, Saturdays, and/or a varied schedule from week to week.
· Ability to obtain and/or maintain a valid Idaho driver's license.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
· Works in a variety of environments including remotely from home, branch locations, schools, childcare centers, parks, or other community sites. Primarily works indoors, with some outdoor activities. Will work independently as well as around others. Primary work location subject to change·
· Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds, push/pull loaded carts of library materials, and load materials onto or into a vehicle.
· Requires sufficient dexterity to operate office, computer, or other technical equipment.
· Ability to hear and speak clearly and must have visual acuity to distinguish letters, words, and numbers as needed.
· Will regularly walk, stand, sit, reach and grasp and occasionally stoop, bend or kneel throughout the workday.
· Ability to ascend and descend stairs, stepladders, etc.
· Ability to drive library vehicles in a variety of road and weather conditions as well as during daylight or after dark
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $19.20 - $20.29 per hour
