Position Title: Crisis Stabilization Clinician, QMHP

Overview:

The Ada S. McKinley Behavioral Health & Clinical Services (BHCS) Program is seeking a skilled and compassionate Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) Crisis Stabilization Clinician to join our Crisis Stabilization Program. This position is responsible for providing direct clinical services, crisis intervention, and stabilization to individuals experiencing acute behavioral health crises. The clinician will deliver trauma-informed, person-centered care while ensuring continuity of services, timely documentation, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. The ideal candidate will have strong diagnostic, assessment, and counseling skills, as well as a passion for supporting individuals in crisis.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, including risk assessments and safety planning, for individuals in crisis.
  • Provide individual and group counseling interventions to stabilize acute symptoms and reduce immediate risk.
  • Develop crisis stabilization treatment plans tailored to the client’s needs, strengths, and recovery goals.
  • Collaborate with peer specialists, case managers, and other team members to ensure holistic support.
  • Coordinate referrals and warm handoffs to community-based mental health and medical services.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record system.
  • Participate in case consultations, team meetings, and multidisciplinary treatment reviews.
  • Assist in de-escalating high-risk situations in a safe, therapeutic manner.
  • Educate clients and families on mental health conditions, coping strategies, and available resources.
  • Uphold trauma-informed, culturally competent practices to foster a safe and supportive environment.
  • Travel: May require travel between program sites or to community locations to provide crisis support.

 

Qualifications:

Education: Master’s degree in counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, or a related behavioral health field (required).

Experience: Minimum of one to two years of clinical experience, preferably in crisis intervention, behavioral health, or emergency services.

 

Skills & Competencies:

  •      Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, and treatment planning skills.
  •      Ability to respond effectively to individuals in high-stress situations.
  •      Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
  •      Knowledge of trauma-informed and evidence-based interventions for crisis stabilization.
  •      Proficiency in electronic health records and Microsoft Office Suite.
  •      Background check and clearance required. Note: This position requires State of Illinois clearance for child abuse/neglect history, as well as a personal background review, fingerprinting, and criminal check.

 

Specialized Experience: Experience with co-occurring disorders, severe mental illness (SMI), or forensic populations is preferred.

Licensure: LPC, LSW, LCPC, or LCSW in Illinois (or eligibility for licensure within 6 months).

Bilingual Abilities: Fluency in Spanish or other languages is a plus.

Fulltime Role

Compensation

 $55,000 to $60,000 Annually with $3000 Sign-on Bonus

Benefit options and eligibility vary by Fulltime and Part-time positions. Compensation within the posted salary range varies based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, and performance at the time of the offer.

Mental/Physical Demands: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.  Work requires concentration using a computer in analyzing and manipulating data. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to sit.  The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

Environmental Conditions: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Duties are performed in a typical office environment.  No unusual or adverse working conditions exist.
