AutoCAD Drafter / Residential CAD Technician

Location: Remote/Hybrid

Pay Rate: $35/hr.-$37/hr.

Position Overview

Our client, a respected residential homebuilder, is seeking an experienced AutoCAD Drafter / Residential CAD Technician to join its Production and Plans Department. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate residential base plans and preparing detailed construction drawings that incorporate customer selections, customized design changes, lot requirements, and current building codes.

The ideal candidate has experience drafting residential floor plans and construction documents using AutoCAD or similar computer-aided design software. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to coordinate effectively with sales, construction, design, development, and customer relations teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and revise accurate residential floor plans and construction documents using the company’s current CAD software.
• Incorporate customized changes based on pre-start documentation, customer option forms, and direction from the Plans Department Team Leader.
• Maintain efficient and timely turnaround of plan drawings required for residential construction.
• Prepare lot-fit matrices for new communities and additional subdivision phases in coordination with sales, marketing, and development teams.
• Create individual lot-fit plans for homes requiring modifications from standard base plans.
• Coordinate the acquisition and organization of plot plans, survey drawings, truss engineering documents, and energy calculations.
• Review and revise residential base plans to reflect design improvements, building-code updates, and production requirements.
• Maintain accurate records of plan revisions, construction details, and customized design changes.
• Organize and maintain current electronic plot files and base plans for printing, retrieval, and future use.
• Collaborate with Customer Relations, Product Development, Design, Sales, and Production teams to modify existing plans and support the development of new residential plans.
• Add approved structural, design, and customer-requested changes to existing, new, or master plans.
• Archives completed plans and maintained an organized system for plan retrieval.
• Stay current with CAD software updates, drafting technology, and equipment enhancements.
• Support value-engineering initiatives and identify opportunities to improve drafting accuracy, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
• Work closely with other Plans Department team members to ensure high-quality, accurate, and timely work.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a CAD Drafter, AutoCAD Technician, Residential Drafter, Architectural Drafter, or Construction Drafter preferred.
• Experience preparing residential floor plans and construction documents is strongly preferred.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD or comparable computer-aided design software.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural plans, surveys, plot plans, construction details, and related technical documents.
• Understanding of residential construction methods, terminology, and building-code requirements.
• Experience completing lot fits, plot plans, or customized residential plan revisions is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to drafting accuracy.
• Excellent organizational, file-management, and recordkeeping skills.
• Ability to manage multiple plan revisions and meet production deadlines.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to follow established drafting standards, company guidelines, policies, and procedures.
