Position Summary
Ad Fontes Academy seeks a Higher Grammar School Teacher (Grades 3–4) who is
passionate about classical Christian education and eager to shepherd students in both
their academic and spiritual formation. The ideal candidate will cultivate curiosity, guide
students toward independent learning, and strengthen core academic skills while helping
them grow in wisdom and virtue. Teachers in 3rd and 4th grade build upon early
foundations, introducing students to greater depth in reading, writing, mathematics,
history, and science through classical methods such as narration, imitation, and Socratic
questioning.
Key Responsibilities
• Teach a comprehensive 3rd–4th grade curriculum, including:
o Reading & Literature: Continue phonics reinforcement while expanding
vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension through classic children’s literature
and read-alouds.
o Spelling & Vocabulary: Systematic instruction in spelling rules, word study,
and vocabulary building.
o Writing & Grammar: Copywork, dictation, narration, paragraph writing, and
grammar instruction.
o Mathematics: Singapore Mathematics (Dimensions Math), emphasizing
conceptual mastery, problem-solving, and application.
o Handwriting: Refinement of manuscript and transition into cursive.
o Bible: Scripture memorization, catechism, and biblical worldview
integration.
o History: Foundational surveys of civilizations, people, and stories shaping
the Christian and Western heritage.
o Science: Nature studies, observation, and age-appropriate explorations of
God’s creation.
o Enrichment: Exposure to art, music, poetry, and Latin introduction.
• Employ classical pedagogy: narration, recitation, chanting, imitation, Socratic
dialogue, and hands-on activities.
• Integrate biblical truth across all subjects, teaching students to love truth,
goodness, and beauty.
• Establish a joyful, orderly classroom environment with discipline rooted in biblical
wisdom.
• Communicate consistently with parents through progress reports, conferences, and
weekly updates.
• Collaborate with Grammar School faculty to ensure continuity and vertical
alignment of skills.
• Assess student learning through developmentally appropriate means and provide
timely, constructive feedback.
• Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide
events.
Qualifications & Desired Characteristics
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Liberal Arts, or a related
field (Master’s preferred).
• Experience: Prior teaching experience, preferably in a classical Christian or rigorous
academic setting.
• Faith Commitment: Mature Christian who wholeheartedly affirms and upholds the
mission and statement of faith of Ad Fontes Academy.
• Teaching Philosophy: Strong understanding of classical Christian education, with
commitment to cultivating both academic excellence and virtue.
• Communication & Leadership: Ability to inspire students with warmth and
enthusiasm while holding high academic expectations.
