This role exercises independent judgment in test performance, equipment maintenance, documentation, and quality activities, and works closely with the Molecular Diagnostics Technologist III to support efficient daily workflows and scheduling. This role reports directly to the Director of Operations.
Responsibilities
The Molecular Diagnostics Technologist II is responsible for all aspects of testing including:
- Performing complex molecular-based procedures with a high degree of quality and in accordance with established protocols.
- Supporting daily scheduling and workflow execution to maximize efficiency and throughput.
- Monitoring daily sample flow to ensure turnaround time (TAT) requirements are met.
- Ensuring all reportable results are reviewed and released within expected timelines.
- Supporting daily scheduling and workflow organization to promote efficiency and throughput.
- Using dashboards and laboratory metrics to track volume, workflow status, quality indicators, and TAT performance.
- Identifying delays or workflow bottlenecks and escalating them promptly.
- Acting as a resource to less experienced staff for routine troubleshooting and assay questions.
- Demonstrating shared accountability for overall departmental performance and quality outcomes.
- Maintain competency in assigned protocols according to established operational procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace in accordance with good laboratory practices.
- Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation in accordance with operating procedures, including equipment checks, performance testing, preventive maintenance, and quality controls. Escalate unresolved problems.
- Follow unidirectional flow and contamination control practices.
- Maintain accurate QC, maintenance, and testing documentation.
- Monitor sample flow, run timing, and TAT to ensure testing progresses within established timelines.
- Use laboratory dashboards and workflow tools to track volume, workflow status, and performance metrics.
- Work closely with the Molecular Diagnostics Technologist III to support coordinated scheduling, efficient workflow execution, and bench coverage.
- Participate in daily stand-up meetings to review volume, staffing, workflow expectations, equipment status, and operational goals.
- Contribute to weekly reporting of laboratory performance metrics
- Engage in workflow improvement initiatives and collaborate on implementing process enhancements.
- Support innovation efforts by providing feedback, identifying inefficiencies, and participating in evaluations of new processes, tools, or technologies.
- Align daily work with broader departmental and organizational goals, including quality, efficiency, and service standards.
- Coordinate daily tasks with peers to maintain consistent bench coverage and workflow continuity.
- Provide routine guidance to junior staff when appropriate.
- Perform other duties as required.
Pay Range: $28-33/hour
