Acute Rescue's Paramedics provide medical care including evaluation, treatment and stabilization to the ill and injured. A Paramedic has a comprehensive knowledge base and is able to diagnose and provide care for a broad range of medical emergencies. Critical Care or Flight Paramedic certification is a plus.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASSA Paramedic has certification and/or licensure as a Paramedic and provides advanced level medical care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSParamedic- Provides and directs efficient and effective medical care to the ill and injured;
- Operates emergency vehicles and transports patients to appropriate medical facility;
- Communicates effectively with necessary parties including paramedic, dispatch, hospital, police and fire personnel;
- Maintains records of vehicles, supplies, training and daily work;
- Ensures the quality and accuracy or care provided by EMT’s;
- Cleans and maintains equipment, vehicles and living quarters. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides training to personnel;
- Performs technical rescues;
- Performs other related functions as assigned. JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess and maintain State Licensure as Paramedic; OR have active NREMT Paramedic status and able to pass an IDHW criminal background check and affiliation with ART to obtain a State Licensure within the first 30 days of employment.
- Must possess and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS), Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification;
- Must maintain a high degree of academic and practical knowledge in emergency paramedicine, and must attend sufficient continuing education classes, courses and seminars both on and off duty to maintain paramedic certification, as required by the State of Idaho;
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license;
- Obtain and maintain ART training requirements as assigned by ART
- Knowledge of the street systems, addresses and physical layout of the region;
- Knowledge of rescue and emergency medical equipment;
- Skill in performing technical medical skills with a high degree of accuracy;
- Skill in understanding and effectively dealing with emotional and medical needs of patients;
- Skill in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of all units of measure;
- Ability to diagnose and treat a medical emergency with a high degree of accuracy;
- Ability to maintain a professional and objective approach to the care of ill or injured persons;
- Ability to learn new concepts in rescue techniques, medical skills and prehospital care;
- Ability to perform basic maintenance of rescue and medical equipment;
- Ability to read and interpret a variety of documents;
- Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization and resources exist;
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and orders;
- Ability to maintain a professional attitude when representing the ART;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;
- Ability to safely drive and operate emergency vehicles and retain Emergency Vehicle Operations Course training;
- Ability to work twelve (12) and twentyfour (24) hour shifts;
- Regular and punctual attendance is required to ensure timely and quality emergency response services. OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore is subject to random drug testing;
- Paramedics must wear Department uniforms while on duty and be responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of both dress and safety uniforms, as well as all issued equipment. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- The Paramedic is required to operate emergency medical vehicles, move medical equipment and extract injured persons from a wide variety of situations involving vehicular, industrial and residential accidents, injuries or illness;
- At times the work requires movement over various types of terrain (hilly, steep, rocky, rough, and/or wet/slippery surfaces);
- Paramedics must be able to carry or help carry someone from the site of illness or injury to the mode of transportation (vehicle/helicopter) and attend to patient while in transport;
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance);
- Paramedic must see, hear and communicate with the patient in order to perform a physical assessment;
- Work is typically performed in 24hour shifts or combination of 12 and 24 hour shifts for a
