What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Engineer (Structural) position at Acute Engineering?
Acute Engineering is a Utah-based engineering firm established in 2002. We specialize in structural engineering for residential and commercial projects and are among the most reputable residential engineering firms in Utah. We currently employ 28 student engineers and 14 full-time project engineers, who are mentored by our 12 licensed and trained project managers on projects within the western United States. We are looking for a student engineer to join our team located in Orem, UT.
In July of 2023, Acute Engineering acquired Dynamic Structures Inc, a local engineering firm with experience in large commercial structures. Dynamic Structures has vast experience with government and institutional projects such as the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium expansion, Altamont High School, Orem City Offices, among others. Job Description
- Perform structural analysis of buildings and components
- Create framing plans and structural details using Bluebeam and AutoCAD/Revit
- Review drawings and calculations for code compliance
- Create and review spreadsheets for new materials/methods calculations
- Perform structural design for wood, steel, concrete, masonry and light-gage steel structures
Minimum Qualifications and Desired Skills
- Civil Engineering Student (Structural emphasis, 1-3 years from graduation)
- Able to work a minimum of 20 hours/week year-round, with the option of working up to 40 hours/week as your schedule allows
- Willing to work at Acute for a period of at least 1 year
- Completed courses in Statics and Mechanics of Materials
- Completed course in Structural Analysis is desired but not required
- Strong desire to learn and apply the knowledge you've gained in school to real-world problems
- Good communication skills are essential
