Salary Range: $150,000 – $190,000

Position Overview
The HR Director will serve as a key business partner to leadership and employees, overseeing all human resources functions across several locations. This hybrid role requires regular on-site presence and travel between our Connecticut stores, Bedford Hills, and Valley Stream. The ideal candidate is proactive, solutions-focused, highly knowledgeable in HR best practices, and comfortable leading both strategic initiatives and day-to-day operations.
Key Responsibilities
Employee Relations & Engagement
- Oversee all employee relations matters, including investigations, conflict resolution, documentation, and disciplinary actions across all locations.
- Coach and train managers on performance management, effective communication, documentation standards, and HR-compliant practices.
- Lead ongoing performance management cycles and ensure clear accountability, KPIs, and expectations.
- Enhance company culture, internal communications, and engagement initiatives to support retention and team cohesion.
- Guide organizational change efforts in support of evolving business goals.
Compliance, Policy Management & Legal
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local labor laws across multiple jurisdictions.
- Develop, maintain, and update employee handbooks, policies, and standard operating procedures.
- Oversee mandatory safety training, harassment prevention training, and other compliance-driven programs.
- Partner with legal counsel to mitigate risk and ensure proper handling of complex or sensitive HR matters.
- Monitor emerging employment legislation to ensure policies remain current and compliant.
Compensation & Benefits
- Oversee compensation structures including base pay, bonus plans, and commission programs across departments.
- Administer health benefits, assist with employee inquiries, and manage annual open enrollment.
- Manage 401(k) plan administration, PTO policies, and all leave-of-absence programs.
- Direct Workers’ Compensation claims, reporting, and compliance.
Talent Management & Workforce Planning
- Lead recruitment strategies, including sourcing, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding for multiple locations.
- Develop long-term workforce planning, succession strategies, and talent pipelines.
- Collaborate with department heads to forecast staffing needs and align talent strategies with business objectives.
- Work closely with ownership and finance teams to ensure staffing aligns with payroll budgets and operational requirements.
Requirements
- 7–10 years of progressive human resources experience, including 3–5 years in an HR leadership role.
- Proven experience supporting multi-location or multi-unit operations.
- Automotive dealership or similar high-volume, multi-unit industry strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in employee relations, investigations, compliance, and HR operations.
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws across NY and CT.
- Experience with HRIS and payroll systems.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to collaborate, influence, and build relationships at all levels.
- Ability to travel frequently across assigned locations as part of the hybrid schedule.
