Controller for Manufacturing
Position Summary
The Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial and administrative operations of the company under U.S. GAAP, including accounting, reporting, internal controls, and compliance.
Experience with cost accounting and manufacturing analysis required.
In addition, the Controller oversees human resources administration, including payroll, employee benefits, and insurance programs, ensuring that the company’s policies are competitive, compliant, and cost-effective.
This is a hands-on leadership role in a mid-sized manufacturing environment, requiring both strategic insight and operational execution across accounting, HR, and administration.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting
- Supervise accounting operations
Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Analysis
- Develop and maintain standard cost models for materials, labor, and overhead.
- Analyze production efficiency, yield, scrap, and variance reports to identify improvement opportunities.
- Partner with operations on pricing, quoting, and profitability analysis.
- Lead inventory management, reconciliation, and physical counts.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Strategic Support
- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Prepare cash flow forecasts and monitor liquidity.
- Analyze variances and recommend corrective actions to management.
- Support business planning, CAPEX evaluation, and ROI analysis for capital projects.
- Provide executive management with accurate and timely financial metrics.
Human Resources, Insurance & Benefits Administration
- Oversee HR functions including payroll, benefits administration, and employee records.
- Negotiate and manage employee benefit programs (medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement plans) to optimize cost and coverage.
- Serve as the primary contact for insurance brokers, benefit providers, and workers’ compensation carriers.
- Monitor compliance with federal and state employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, OSHA, ACA, EEOC, etc.).
- Coordinate annual open enrollment and employee communication regarding benefits.
- Work with leadership to maintain competitive compensation and benefits structures aligned with company goals.
- Support employee relations, onboarding, and HR policy updates as needed.
Leadership & Process Improvement
- Supervise and mentor accounting, payroll, and HR staff
- Ensure accurate cross-department communication between finance, HR, and operations.
- Implement ERP and HRIS system improvements.
- Promote a culture of accountability, integrity, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- CMA or CPA strongly preferred.
- 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including manufacturing and HR exposure.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, cost accounting, and internal control systems.
- Experience negotiating and managing health and employee benefit plans.
- Familiarity with payroll systems, HRIS, and ERP platforms (e.g., SAP, NetSuite, ADP, or Paylocity).
- Advanced Excel and analytical skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Proven leadership and team-building skills.
