Responsibilities
- Review and process medical claims using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Apply appropriate coding standards including CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes to classify diagnoses and procedures correctly
- Manage medical collections by following up on unpaid or denied claims, resolving discrepancies promptly
- Maintain comprehensive medical records and documentation to support billing activities and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations
- Collaborate with clinicians to clarify coding details, verify diagnosis codes, and ensure proper documentation for billing purposes
- Stay updated on changes in medical coding standards, insurance policies, and billing regulations to optimize reimbursement processes
- Generate detailed reports on billing status, outstanding accounts, and revenue cycle metrics to inform management decisions
