Job Description: Tooling Technician – Micro Injection Molding
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Tooling Technician specializing in micro injection molding tooling to support our production operations. This role is responsible for tooling repairs, modifications, precision adjustments, and ensuring that molded parts consistently run and measure within customer-specified tolerances, commonly in the range of ±0.0005". The Tooling Technician will also perform core changes, tool cleaning, and detailed tool inspections after each production run.
Key ResponsibilitiesTooling Repair & Modification
- Diagnose and repair issues in micro injection molding tools to meet dimensional, functional, and quality requirements.
- Perform high-precision tooling adjustments to maintain tolerances of ±0.0005" or tighter.
- Execute core changes, component replacements, and tool steel alterations.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve tooling-related issues efficiently.
Tool Maintenance, Cleaning & Inspection
- Conduct thorough cleaning and inspection of molds and tooling after each production run.
- Measure, document, and verify tool dimensions, wear, and condition using precision metrology equipment.
- Maintain organized records of tool history, repairs, and modifications.
Machining, Metrology & Equipment OperationMachining Equipment
Operate and maintain a range of manual and CNC machining equipment, including:
- 3-Axis CNC Mill (Hurco VM10i) - Programming and operation required.
- Horizontal Mill (Trak DPM)
- Vertical Mill (Clausing Kondia)
- Precision Surface Grinder (Chevalier 818SP)
- Lathe (Monarch Engine Lathe)
- Electrode Burner (Charmilles Eleroda 10)
Precision Measurement & Inspection Equipment
Utilize a wide range of dimensional inspection tools, including:
- Keyence LM-Series Dimensional Measurement System
- ST-Industries Optical Comparator
- Microscopes (part inspection and tool detail verification)
- Calipers & Micrometers
- Gauge Pins
- Drop Indicators & Dial Indicators
- Other hand-held and bench metrology tools as required for micro-scale precision work.
QualificationsRequired
- 5 years of experience in tool, mold, or precision machining roles.
- Strong understanding of machining principles and tool steels.
- Demonstrated ability to hold extremely tight tolerances (±0.0005").
- Skilled in setup, operation, and CNC programming (for applicable equipment).
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and tooling prints.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
Preferred
- Experience specifically with micro injection molding tooling.
- EDM (electrode burning) experience.
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software is beneficial but not required.

Pay: $27.00 - $33.00 per hour
