SUMMARY
Active Learning is looking for Teaching Artists in Music Production and DJ techniques to teach children grades 4th-8th
throughout LA and Orange County School Districts’ After School Programs. Active Learning teachers are known
throughout Orange County for their excellence in teaching their craft. We are seeking animated and outgoing
personalities with an interest in teaching children a skill they themselves are passionate about. While previous DJ and
Music Production experience is required, teachers will be provided with training and curriculum but are also encouraged
to employ their own individuality, creativity, and expertise to make their lessons unique and engaging for students. If you

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Prepare music production and DJ lessons for students in 4th-8th grade on a weekly basis
- Use age appropriate teaching techniques to guide students in 4th-8th grade in creating music and learning
fundamental dj skills such as beat matching, scratching and mixing music for a showcase.
- Manage up to 20 students with clear expectations, respect, and organized teaching
- Utilize different teaching styles to meet the needs of a diverse range of students
- Create a positive and fun environment in which to learn and create
- Inspire critical thinking methods while teaching music production and DJ lessons to students
- Communicate and coordinate with a team teacher in daily lessons
- Check in with the school staff for communication regarding schedule, location, classes, etc.
- Maintain a positive rapport with school staff such as principal, office staff and other admin
- Organize materials and ensure the needed equipment is ready
- Design and develop comprehensive curricula for music production and DJ courses
- Deliver engaging and informative lessons that cover topics such as digital audio workstations (DAWs), MIDI
sequencing, sound synthesis, sampling techniques, beatmatching, mixing, and live performance.
- Provide hands-on training in school environments and with DJ equipment, allowing students to apply theoretical
knowledge to practical situations.
- Assess student progress through assignments, projects, and performance evaluations, offering constructive
feedback to enhance their skills and understanding.
- Keep abreast of current trends, technologies, and practices in music production and DJing
- Act as a mentor to students, providing guidance on career paths, networking opportunities, and portfolio
development within the music industry.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS
- Educational or formal training in music production/DJ required
- Strong understanding of child development and impact on learning
- Patient, empathetic, and encouraging demeanor to motivate and inspire students
- Adaptability and flexibility to tailor lessons to meet diverse student needs and learning styles
- Ability to remain positive, calm and flexible when faced with unexpected situations
- A good knowledge of safety principles and practices
- Experience working with children in a school or after school setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent time management, multitasking and organizational skills skills with ability to prioritize work
- Ability to be flexible and adapt as needed between in-person work environments
- Self-directed and able to work independently
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must pass a background check.
- TB test clearance to be renewed every 4 years.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
