Job Summary
The Transportation Regional Director oversees all transportation functions across an assigned state or region—including strategic planning, daily operations, fleet management, route optimization, compliance with federal, state, and payer requirements, and budget/P&L oversight. This role leads and develops Transportation Managers and field teams; standardizes processes (SOPs, checklists, training, audits); partners cross-functionally to deploy tools and improvements; and engages with state agencies, MCOs/brokers, and vendors to strengthen service and support growth
- Statewide Leadership & Strategy Own statewide transportation operations, including performance management and state transportation P&L; align goals with company strategy and member experience standards.
- People Leadership Lead, coach, and develop Transportation Managers, Dispatchers, and Drivers; cultivate a culture of accountability, safety, and member-centered service.
- Safety & Risk Drive safety excellence; lead incident/accident investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and ongoing safety training; manage reporting and follow-up.
- Regulatory & Payer Compliance Ensure compliance with DOT, ADA, Medicaid/waiver programs, and [STATE] regulations; partner with Compliance to prepare for audits and respond to findings. Oversee proper submission of Medicaid transportation claims when applicable.
- Routing & Service Optimization Use fleet/routing software to improve on-time performance, reduce miles per member, and enhance member ride experience; standardize SOPs and quality audits statewide while tailoring to local requirements.
- Fleet Management Oversee preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, licensing/registration, and lifecycle optimization to ensure safety, compliance, reliability, and cost efficiency; coordinate with Fleet and Regional leadership.
- Cross-Functional Partnership Partner with Operations, Clinical, Finance, IT, HR, and Compliance to implement tools, technology, and process improvements; support new center openings, payer transitions, and technology rollouts.
- External Engagement Build relationships with applicable state agencies, MCOs/brokers, and vendors to align on service standards, resolve issues, and support growth.
- High school degree or equivalent required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- At least 21 years of age
- 5 years multi-site transportation or operations leadership (healthcare, paratransit, NEMT, or comparable); experience across multiple locations in a state preferred. (Multi-state experience a plus.)
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet state/vehicle-specific driver credentials and credentialing requirements. Successful results of background check, MVR, drug testing, and any state-specific requirements.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook/Excel/PowerPoint), GPS/routing and fleet management software; data-driven decision-making with KPIs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to train, mentor, and supervise others; proven change-management and stakeholder relationship abilities.
- Knowledge of logistics and applicable transportation regulations (DOT, ADA, Medicaid/waiver and assigned region).
- Experience serving older adults and/or adults with disabilities preferred.
- Where applicable, certifications such as CPR, First Aid, and Passenger Assistance Safety & Sensitivity (PASS) required (training facilitated). Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and enter/exit vehicles as needed
