Our client, a manufacturer in Irvington, NJ, is looking for an Environmental and Safety Manager who will drive continuous improvement in Environment and Safety (E&S) performance, reduce environmental risk, integrate sustainability business practices, and implement robust systems to ensure compliance with local, state, & federal environmental regulations and conformance with company programs & expectations. This individual contributor role is part of the site EHS Team and reports to the site Senior EHS Manager. Salary starts at $150,000/year, commensurate with experience

Responsibilities to include: Prepare and communicate EHS performance reports for internal campus, global and external stakeholders . Manage EHS metrics, reports, permits, and other documents as required by regulatory agencies and corporate management.

  • Build relationships across the campus to promote continuous E&S improvement, employee & leadership engagement, and a proactive compliance & risk-focused EHS culture.
  • Lead projects to improve E&S KPIs, regulatory compliance, company standard conformance, & risk-reduction to include energy use, water use, and waste generation.
  • Ensure E&S programs comply with applicable government regulations, business technical standards and industry best practices.
  • Promote Environmental compliance and risk reduction through detailed programs, leadership participation & engagement, employee training, inspections, and auditing.
  • Maintain site permits, licenses, and certificates.
  • Participate in the creation & execution of E&S budget.
  • Represent the company at audits and site visits by the local authorities and customers.
  • Conduct formal and systematic reviews of facility operations and activities to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company policies related to CAA, CWA, RCRA, TSCA, SARA etc. and applicable city, county, and state regulations. Create and drive action plans to implement identified corrective actions.
  • Routinely monitor regulatory changes to ensure continued compliance with upcoming changes in federal, state, and local rules and regulations.
  • Provide regular reports regarding compliance status, the cost of compliance and the results of audits and inspections to the plant leader, business unit EHS&S director and segment or enterprise leaders as necessary.
  • Manage the site EHS Management of Change (MOC) program
  • Develop and deliver employee training on topics such as stormwater and waste awareness.


  • Qualifications/Requirements:
  • BA Degree in EHS or related field required.
  • 8 years’ experience implementing an EHS management system within a chemical or manufacturing setting with regulatory oversight required.
  • Previous experience implementing ISO 14001 preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred
  • Professional safety or environmental certification highly preferred (i.e. CHMM, CPEA)
  • Experience in hazardous waste management, stormwater, wastewater, air compliance, chemical management reporting, SPCC plan coordination, EPCRA reporting and emergency response coordination.
  • Ability to balance multiple competing priorities, make risk-based decisions, & pivot quickly when priorities shift.
