Job Summary
Action Manufacturing Company is seeking a TSD (Treatment, Storage & Disposal) Technician to support the safe handling, treatment, storage, and disposal of hazardous and explosive-related waste generated throughout our Atglen, PA facility.
This position plays an important role in maintaining a safe and compliant manufacturing environment. The TSD Technician will collect, process, document, package, and prepare wet wastes and pyrotechnic materials for proper disposal or recycling in accordance with company procedures and applicable environmental and safety requirements.
The successful candidate must be safety-focused, dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with hazardous materials, explosives, and pyrotechnics.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Safely dispose of wet wastes generated by primary, secondary, and pyrotechnic operations, including loose materials and materials contained within components, in accordance with established procedures.
- Collect explosive sludge, liquid waste, and paper waste from individual operation buildings for proper treatment and disposal.
- Catalog explosive sludge, liquid, and paper waste and maintain accurate departmental records.
- Filter liquid waste and explosive sludge using waste-processing equipment.
- Operate the waste saver to distill liquid waste and remove explosives and oxidizers from water for potential reuse in accordance with applicable EPA requirements.
- Deliver recycled water to designated operations buildings.
- Package explosive sludge, liquid waste, and paper waste for shipment to approved off-site disposal facilities.
- Determine appropriate hazardous-material classifications prior to shipment.
- Operate, inspect, and maintain departmental equipment, including filtration equipment, pumps, water saver, boiler, and company truck.
- Assist the Powder Department with the transfer of bulk primary powders into secondary storage containers.
- Coordinate with multiple departments to ensure the safe and timely handling and disposal of wet wastes and pyrotechnic materials.
- Work closely with the Plant Manager, Engineering, Powder Department, Production Department Leaders, Quality Department, and Facility Maintenance Department.
- Perform other duties and assignments as required.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to understand and safely perform the essential functions of the position.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and strict adherence to safety procedures, policies, and instructions.
- Must be capable of working in an environment where hazardous materials, explosives, and pyrotechnics are present.
- Thorough understanding of waste-water processing is required.
- Hands-on experience working with explosives and/or pyrotechnics is required.
- Previous experience working with hazardous materials is required.
- HazMat training is required.
- Ability to follow established procedures while exercising sound judgment in potentially dangerous situations.
- Ability to work independently and make routine decisions within established company policies and objectives.
- Questions should be referred to the supervisor when interpretation or clarification of company policy is required.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.
Training & Experience
- Previous experience handling hazardous materials required.
- Experience working with explosives and/or pyrotechnics required.
- HazMat training required.
- Experience with wastewater treatment, filtration systems, pumps, boilers, or related processing equipment is highly desirable.
