Action for Nature (AFN) is a San Francisco-based environmental non-profit dedicated to empowering youth to protect and respect the natural world. Since 2003, we have recognized over 360 young environmental leaders from more than 40 countries through our International Young Eco-Hero Awards. We believe that the long-term health of our planet depends on reaching young people with a message of hope and personal action. Our winners have gone on to lead global climate initiatives and serve as UN ambassadors, and we are dedicated to giving their stories the global microphone they deserve.
Role Description
This is a remote, contract role for a Public Relations Consultant to lead the media campaign for the 2026 International Young Eco-Hero Awards. The consultant will develop and execute a strategic media plan to maximize international awareness of the awards and our global winners. You will work closely with our Media Director to amplify the organization's reach across a diverse range of global markets.
- Timeline is late June through September 30, 2026
- Budget is a $5,000 flat fee
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy to secure earned media coverage in international, national, and regional outlets including science, environmental, youth, and positive news
- Draft a master press release and approximately 15 individual releases tailored to the specific achievements and geographic regions of our global winners
- Conduct aggressive pitching for exclusive stories and interview opportunities for award winners
- Build and maintain targeted media lists of journalists and influencers globally
- Promote our Virtual Eco-Hero Conference scheduled for September 2026 to relevant media
- Track all media coverage and provide a final impact report with reach and sentiment analysis
Qualifications
- Proven track record in international PR with demonstrated success in securing media coverage across multiple countries and global regions
- Expertise in earned media, specifically in strategic pitching and building relationships with international journalists and editors
- Superior writing skills, particularly in drafting compelling press releases for a global audience
- Familiarity with environmental issues, youth activism, or the non-profit sector
- Ability to meet strict deadlines and manage multiple moving parts in a remote, independent environment
- Preferred experience with PR tools such as Cision or Muck Rack and a background in Communications, Journalism, or International Relations
