Journeyman Electrician

Job Summary:

The Electrician will perform journeyman level duties related to electrical components and systems such as generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems, or other transmission equipment.  

Shift: Monday - Friday, 6:00am - 2:30pm

Pay Rate: Up to $39.25 per hour

*This will be a union position. 

Essential Job Functions:

•  Works from blueprints, drawings, layouts, or other specifications
• Locates and diagnoses trouble in the electrical system or equipment
• Solves standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment using a variety of electrician’s hand tools and measuring and testing instruments
• Document actions, testing results, observations, final diagnosis of the situation and steps taken to resolve issues for each job or situation
• Repair electrical issues by replacing or installing components, wiring or devices
• Determine the steps necessary to assess an electrical situation using testing devices, blueprints and maps
• Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to all company guidelines and OSHA safety requirements and also through reporting violations of policies, procedures and guidelines to immediate supervisor
• Use ladders, scaffolding, platform and lifts to work on electrical systems in residential homes, on roadside poles and in commercial properties
• Answer emergency calls quickly, assess the safety of the situation upon first arriving at the scene and provide directions to individuals affected by the electrical emergency to ensure their continued safety and comfort
• Maintain equipment to ensure it is in good condition and can operate or be used safely; report any issues to immediate supervisor
• Other duties as assigned

Required Skills, Expereince, and Education:

• Journeyman Electrician License in the State of Texas
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• 2-5 years progressive, hands-on experience in a commercial or industrial setting
• Proficiency with National Electrical Codes (NEC) and local codes
• Ability to read blueprints
• Ability to read, write, and speak English
• Ability to communicate with a variety of coworkers and government stakeholders
• Knowledge of computers and basic computer applications
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics
• Ability to effectively complete tasks in a team setting or independently
• Ability to effectively utilize resources to maximize productivity 
• Must be able to use tools of the job such as those related to electrical system maintenance and repair, test equipment, and safety gear

Working Environment:
Work takes place in a commercial facility with indoor/ outdoor exposure. Employee may be exposed to loud noises due to machinery or equipment.
