Job Summary:
The General Maintenance Worker performs general maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings requiring practical skill and knowledge in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, HVAC, and electrical work. This position is part- time weekend coverage to conduct operational tours to check the chiller/boiler plants, fuels tanks, plumbing and general operations of the facility.
Pay Rate: $27.76 per hour
Schedule: Full-time, M-F, 40 hours per week
This will be a union position
Essential Job Functions:
- Replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors
- Using plaster or compound to patch minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings
- Repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets
- Sheet rock work
- Light carpentry
- Painting structures and equipment
- Repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks
- Replacing damaged paneling and floor tiles
- Hanging doors and installing door locks
- Replacing broken window panes
- Performing general maintenance on equipment and machinery
- Maintenance of Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems
- Maintenance of concrete and asphalt roads, parking lots and sidewalks
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills, Experience, and Education:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Two years recent experience (within past 5 years) in building operations and maintenance or in an occupation such as general mechanic.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
- Ability to deal with problems involving few concrete variables in standardized situations
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
- Clean driving record
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and e-mail applications
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and able to communicate effectively in English
- Ability to effectively utilize available resources to maximize productivity
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute ratio, rate, and percent
- Able to interpret miscellaneous drawings and schematics
- General knowledge of building mechanical systems and operation.
- Ability to assess and understand equipment operations using program controllers and gauges.
