Job Title: Trip Hazard Assessment Technician

Job Summary

The Trip Hazard Assessment Specialist for Action Asphalt & Concrete is responsible for identifying, measuring, documenting, and reporting surface irregularities that may pose a trip-and-fall risk on pedestrian pathways. This role supports risk mitigation, ADA compliance, and public safety across sidewalks, parking lots, campuses, courts, and building access routes.

Key Responsibilities:

Site Inspections

  • Conduct systematic inspections of sidewalks, walkways, ADA routes, parking areas, courts, and common pedestrian paths
  • Identify trip hazards including vertical displacements, cracking, settlement, heaving, spalling, and surface deterioration
  • Assess high-traffic and high-risk areas such as school routes, building entrances, and accessible paths of travel

Measurement & Evaluation

  • Measure vertical and horizontal surface deviations using rulers, digital levels, or straightedges
  • Classify hazards based on established thresholds (e.g., <¼”, ¼”–½”, >½”)
  • Evaluate hazards for ADA compliance and pedestrian risk severity

Documentation & Reporting

  • Photograph each identified hazard (context and close-up with measurement reference)
  • Record precise location data (campus, building, stationing, grid, or map reference)
  • Prepare written inspection reports summarizing findings, risk levels, and recommended corrective actions
  • Maintain organized inspection logs and digital records

Risk Classification & Recommendations

  • Assign risk categories (Low, Moderate, High, Critical)
  • Recommend appropriate corrective measures such as grinding, patching, slab replacement, or resurfacing
  • Identify hazards requiring immediate action versus scheduled maintenance

Coordination & Compliance

  • Coordinate with facilities, maintenance, engineering, or risk management staff
  • Support ADA transition plans and liability mitigation efforts
  • Provide documentation suitable for audits, claims defense, and capital planning

Qualifications Required

  • Experience in facilities inspection, construction, pavement maintenance, or safety assessments
  • Ability to accurately measure and document surface irregularities
  • Knowledge of pedestrian safety principles and trip hazard standards
  • Proficiency with mobile devices, cameras, and basic reporting software
  • Ability to walk long distances and work outdoors in varying conditions
  • Driver's License with clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass DOJ and FBI background check.
  • Candidate will be required to drive long distances covering all of California and Nevada.
  • Overnight stay may be required.
  • This position includes use of a company vehicle. Daily pickup and drop off at the office is required.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with ADA accessibility requirements
  • Background in public works, school facilities, engineering, or risk management
  • Experience preparing inspection reports for public agencies or school districts

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, kneeling
  • Ability to lift inspection tools and equipment
  • Visual acuity sufficient to identify surface irregularities

Work Environment

  • Outdoor campuses, sidewalks, parking lots, and recreational areas
  • Exposure to weather, uneven terrain, and active public environments

  • Defensible inspection records supporting safety and liability reduction

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
