Overview
A Caregiver provides hands-on support to residents with moderate to high care needs. This role focuses on assisting with daily living activities, ensuring safety, and supporting residents’ physical and emotional well-being. The caregiver works under supervision but is expected to handle routine care independently and respond appropriately to changes in residents’ conditions.
Duties
- Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility
- Support meal preparation and feeding, including monitoring dietary restrictions
- Perform light housekeeping (laundry, cleaning resident rooms, maintaining hygiene standards)
- Monitor and document vital signs and changes in condition
- Provide medication assistance (as allowed by state regulations)
- Ensure resident safety, including fall prevention and use of assistive devices
- Support residents with behavioral or cognitive challenges (e.g., dementia care)
- Maintain accurate daily charting and incident reporting
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and families
- Follow all care plans, policies, and DSHS/state regulations
Experience
- Previous caregiving experience in an Adult Family Home, Assisted Living, or similar setting
- Experience with dementia and mental health care preferred
- Knowledge of basic caregiving skills and infection control practices
- Ability to recognize and report changes in resident condition
- Certified or willing to obtain:
- Home Care Aide (HCA) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- CPR & First Aid
- Food Handler’s Permit
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to handle physically demanding tasks (lifting, transferring residents)
- Reliable, patient, and compassionate approach to care
