The appointed faculty member will be a member of the Department of Teaching and Learning with an affiliation in Special Education. The primary responsibilities of this faculty member are to offer courses developing proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL). We seek applicants who are fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) (National Certification in ASL, ASLTA certification, or RID-certified strongly preferred) and have pedagogical expertise in teaching ASL (beginner and advanced courses), as well as one or more of the following subjects: deaf culture, special education, inclusive pedagogy, linguistics, or related fields. Candidates must demonstrate strong cross-cultural understanding. NYU Steinhardt faculty may have the opportunity to engage in teaching at these global sites. Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher, advisor, and mentor to undergraduate and/or graduate students; participate in program and curricular development; and serve on program, department, School, and University committees. Clinical Faculty may also engage in scholarly work or creative production. Qualifications Candidates should have a Master’s degree in Deaf Education or a related field, and knowledge of special education policies and teaching methods. They should also be fluent in ASL and able to teach beginner to advanced level ASL courses. Preferred qualifications: In addition to the above, the ideal candidate will have earned a Doctorate or be in the process of completing a doctoral degree. They will also have field-based pedagogical experience specifically tailored to the instructional needs of students who are d/Deaf or hard of hearing within educational settings and be familiar with both Signing Naturally and TRUE+Way ASL.

Salary : $74,000 - $114,000
