Job Title: Bench Scientist IIJob Description

This Bench Scientist II role focuses on executing laboratory-based experiments that support scientific research, product development, and technical investigations. You will perform hands-on work with analytical and characterization techniques, generate high-quality data, optimize methods, and contribute to problem-solving efforts. In this position, you will execute and interpret scientific protocols, collaborate closely with research leads and project teams, and play a key role in informing scientific and technical decision-making.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct laboratory experiments using established scientific methods to support research and development objectives.
  • Prepare, handle, and analyze biological and chemical samples using appropriate laboratory instrumentation and techniques.
  • Execute in vitro pharmacology assays and support related experimental workflows.
  • Support and operate within high-throughput screening (HTS) workflows to enable efficient data generation.
  • Apply fluorescence-based assay technologies to support screening and characterization activities.
  • Document experimental procedures, results, and observations accurately and comprehensively in accordance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and internal standards.
  • Use electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs) to record and maintain experimental data and ensure data integrity.
  • Analyze experimental data using GraphPad Prism and other tools to derive meaningful conclusions and support project decisions.
  • Collaborate with scientists and cross-functional project teams to troubleshoot technical issues and optimize experimental protocols.
  • Interpret data and communicate findings clearly to project stakeholders, contributing to ongoing research and development strategies.
  • Participate in assay transfer, assay validation, and laboratory process implementation activities as needed.
  • Adapt and refine scientific protocols to improve robustness, efficiency, and reproducibility of laboratory assays.
Essential Skills
  • Proficiency in core laboratory techniques and instrumentation relevant to in vitro pharmacology and screening assays.
  • Ability to follow and adapt scientific protocols with strong attention to detail and experimental rigor.
  • Strong documentation skills, including accurate recording of procedures, results, and observations in compliance with GLP and internal standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret experimental data and draw scientifically sound conclusions.
  • Effective communication skills to present data and collaborate within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in in vitro pharmacology.
  • Experience supporting high-throughput screening (HTS) workflows.
  • Familiarity with fluorescence-based assay technologies.
  • Experience using GraphPad Prism for data analysis.
  • Experience with electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs).
  • Prior experience working in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or contract research organization (CRO) environment.
  • Degree in a scientific discipline such as Chemistry, Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field.
  • Approximately 2–4 years of laboratory experience in a relevant scientific setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Familiarity with assay transfer activities, including adapting assays to new platforms or laboratories.
  • Experience with assay validation, including assessing robustness, reproducibility, and performance characteristics.
  • Exposure to laboratory process implementation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple experiments, priorities, and timelines in a dynamic research setting.
Work Environment

This role is based in a laboratory environment that focuses on in vitro pharmacology, high-throughput screening, and fluorescence-based assay technologies. You will work hands-on with scientific instrumentation, analytical tools, and electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs) to support data-driven research and development. The position involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary scientists and project teams in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or contract research organization (CRO)-style setting. Work is typically conducted during standard laboratory hours, with periods of focused bench work, data analysis using tools such as GraphPad Prism, and participation in team discussions and troubleshooting sessions.

This is a Contract position based out of Groton, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $48.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
