We are seeking a dedicated Urban Planner responsible for producing presentation materials, technical reports, and other project deliverables for planning and planning-related projects. This role involves developing and leading community engagement activities, data collection, and analysis, managing project budgets, and creating strategies to promote economic and community development. You will work with dynamic teams, including municipalities, owners, developers, architects, and community organizations, to interpret and apply applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations. Additionally, you will assist in preparing proposals and fee estimates for potential projects and represent the company at various events.
Responsibilities- Produce presentation materials, technical reports, and project deliverables for planning projects.
- Develop and lead community engagement activities.
- Conduct data collection and analysis.
- Manage project budgets effectively.
- Develop strategies for economic and community development, housing challenges, efficient land use, and community initiatives.
- Collaborate with municipalities, developers, architects, and community organizations.
- Interpret and apply state, county, and local codes and regulations.
- Assist in preparing proposals and fee estimates.
- Represent the company at networking events, conferences, and public meetings.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in Urban Planning.
- Bachelor's degree in urban or regional planning, urban studies, urban design, or related field.
- Knowledge of planning methodology, principles, and practices.
- GIS experience.
- Master's Degree.
- Experience with City of Detroit projects.
- Parks & Recreation experience.
- Transportation project experience.
- Economic Development experience.
- American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.
The role is based in a small office of about 12 people, located in downtown Detroit. The company plans to grow to 20 employees over the next two years. The work schedule is Monday to Friday, with core hours from 8 am to 4 pm. A flexible hybrid work schedule is offered, with a minimum of 3 days in the office. The company has offices in Detroit, Lansing, Novi, and Rochester Hills, allowing occasional work from these locations. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $36.00 - $42.00/hr.
