Job Title: Tooling Designer

Job Description

As a Tooling Designer, you will be responsible for both re-engineering and full design projects, primarily supporting automotive end customers. You will work in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple projects concurrently, with design time varying based on complexity. Collaborate with the sales team, controls engineers, and tool makers to ensure successful project execution. Your main focus will be designing automated tooling, gages, check fixtures, weld fixtures, robotic projects, and assembly stations.

Responsibilities

• Utilize SolidWorks software to complete designs from start to finish.
• Create 3D models and 2D prints for manufacturing.
• Use PDM for document management and file saving.
• Select mechanical parts for projects, such as bolt or cylinder sizes.
• Use JBA as a search tool for job reference.
• Print or review job requirements in JBA for specific design requirements.
• Manage workload based on due dates.
• Schedule and conduct progress meetings with sales, controls engineers, and tool makers.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in SolidWorks.
• Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
• 2 years of experience in designing automated tooling, gages, check fixtures, weld fixtures, robotic projects, and assembly stations.
• Experience with Automated Machine Design.
• Familiarity with EPDM document management systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis).
• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Automotive field experience.
• Familiarity with document management software.

Work Environment

Designers typically work 55 hours per week, with the workload expected to reduce to 40-45 hours after the first quarter of 2026. However, designers can choose to work more hours if they prefer a heavier workload. The schedule is flexible, allowing work on Saturdays if preferred. Start time is no later than 8 a.m., Monday through Friday. The company offers paid holidays including Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and the day after, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. There is also an opportunity to learn from senior designers, with negotiable PTO of 80-120 hours, increasing by 8 hours every other year up to 160 hours. Additional unpaid time can be taken with supervisor approval, and the flexible schedule allows for making up hours on different days.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Greenville, MI.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Greenville,MI.
