Job Description

The Test Technician (internally titled Engineering Lab Technician) supports an Automotive Product Validation Lab by performing testing, validation, and quality assurance on advanced automotive systems, with a primary focus on brake actuation and medium- and heavy-duty truck foundation brake products.

This role plays a critical part in ensuring products meet stringent safety, performance, and reliability standards through hands-on lab work, careful data analysis, and continuous improvement of test methods and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on functional performance, misuse, environmental, durability, and NVH validation testing in a laboratory environment.
  • Follow and execute detailed test plans and procedures to validate product performance against design specifications and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Set up and operate test equipment, including data acquisition systems, sensors, and diagnostic tools, to conduct accurate and repeatable tests.
  • Complete testing activities in a timely manner according to agreed-upon schedules and project timelines.
  • Build prototype samples to support new product development projects and validation testing activities.
  • Proactively identify product and test equipment abnormalities during testing and promptly report them to the team.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and software issues identified during testing and support follow-through to issue resolution.
  • Analyze test data to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for product or process improvement.
  • Document and report all test results, findings, discrepancies, and failures with clear, concise, and comprehensive detail.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to lab facilities, test equipment, and work processes.
  • Ensure all testing and validation activities comply with internal quality standards and relevant industry regulations.
  • Perform quality checks on components and assemblies to confirm they meet specified requirements and tolerances.

Essential Skills

  • 2 years of hands-on experience in an automotive testing or validation role
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings, hydraulic and electrical schematics and technical documentation
  • Understanding of mechanical systems and hydraulic systems
  • Proficient with diagnostic and data acquisition tools
  • Basic machine skills (lathes, mills, general fabrication)
  • Familiar with IATF 16949 and ISO 9001

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Direct experience with brake actuation and/or medium heavy duty truck foundation brake systems
  • Proficiency in DaisyLab and/or Labview (data acquisition tools)
  • Familiarity with Hardware-In-The-Loop (HIL) and Software-In-The-Loop (SIL) testing methodologies
  • ASE certification (automotive service excellence)
  • Associates Degree in Automotive Technology or Mechanical Engineering Technology

Work Environment

Working in an engineering lab environment, the lab supports the development and validation of automotive brake components and systems, including products such as Hydro-boosters, master cylinders, driveline park brakes, and medium-heavy truck disc brakes.

The role involves regular use of test stands, data acquisition systems, sensors, diagnostic equipment, and basic machine tools such as lathes and mills.

Typical work hours are approximately 40–45 hours per week.

The site offers the opportunity to collaborate closely with various engineering disciplines due to its smaller size, providing broad exposure and strong potential for professional growth beyond this role.
