Job Title: Test Engineer
Job Description
The Machine Test & Development Engineer will collaborate with design teams and validation engineers for various product groups, such as Backhoe Loader, Mini Hydraulic Excavator, Small Wheel Loaders, and Small Track Type Tractors. The role focuses on both New Product Introduction and Current Product Improvement projects, primarily at the Clayton Machine Development Center in Clayton, NC.
Responsibilities
- Perform pre-test planning with design and validation engineers to discuss concerns or problems and establish clear test objectives.
- Create a test plan with a schedule, instrumentation, data collection, and machine operations to meet test objectives.
- Review and apply standard test procedures where appropriate, and innovate and document new testing methods as warranted.
- Ensure machines are updated and fit for testing with the appropriate hardware and software.
- Collaborate with test support staff to prepare machines and test sites or equipment, occasionally assisting with task completion.
- Lead the completion of machine test and development activities safely, on schedule, and on budget.
- Review and analyze test data using various software, including Data Analysis Toolkit and MS Office.
- Develop and document clear conclusions and recommendations, and communicate results to product groups.
- Coordinate post-test removal of instrumentation and return of machines to pre-test or desired state as agreed with product group engineers.
- Archive all testing information and documentation and share lessons learned with the test and development team.
Essential Skills
- Test development and engineering skills.
- Experience in testing mechanical systems such as Engine, Hydraulic, and Powertrain.
- Proficiency with data analysis tools.
- Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering or Material Science field.
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in testing or product development on machines or systems.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to work hands-on with machines in various environments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated proficiency in troubleshooting and problem solving.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- 3 years of relevant work experience in machine testing or product development.
- Familiarity with basic measurement techniques and statistical analysis.
- Understanding of principles of operation for instrumentation and data loggers, and experience setting up instrumented tests.
- Experience with construction equipment and systems such as Engine, Hydraulic, Powertrain, Electrical, and machine Software & Control systems.
- Familiarity with test and development applications/tools like Data Analysis software, CANape, CadetWin, and E.T.
- Machine operating experience.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics.
- Design experience.
Work Environment

Job Type & Location
This position is based out of Clayton, North Carolina.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
