Technical Writer

Overview:

We're currently hiring a team of Tech Writers that will write and revise technical materials, such as equipment operator, maintenance, manuals, appendices, and repair parts and special tools lists manuals on advanced military equipment. May assist in layout work. Technical writer to develop system documentation to be used for maintenance and operation of the aerostat, mooring subsystem, payloads, and associated ground/site support equipment. This role is for the Documentation and Training department. 

Description:

• This individual shall be able to write and revise technical documentation, development plans and organize technical documentation development efforts.  
• Will develop lesson plans, power points, practical exercises as well to support customer modifications. 
• Confer with engineering disciplines, technical installers, manufacturing personnel, or field support personnel..
• Evaluate existing operation and maintenance documentation.
• Develop the operation and maintenance manuals within the schedule requirements.
• Validate operation and maintenance manuals.
• Develop documentation in MIL-STD format using XML.
• Adhere to stylesheet and DTD rules.
• Ensure IETM XML is error free by using business rules and source verifier.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a related technical Engineering field or equivalent amount of education and experience. (Related military training and/or experience is a plus.)
• 5 years of related work experience including preparation of system documentation.
• Proficient with technical writing in XML and/or Arbortext is required.
• Experience developing documentation in MIL-STD format using XML.
• Must be eligible for a U.S. DoD Secret Clearance. (Bonus if you already have an active clearance)
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• Ability to assimilate quickly, with new software.
• Familiarity with graphics tools, and computer based technical manual authoring tools (i.e. Arbortext), and modeling tools such as Solid Works is a plus.
• Proficient in S1000D would be a plus.

Additional Information:

• 2-4 openings available.
• Pay Rate: $40-$45/hr based on experience.
• 9/80 work schedule. (Off every other Friday and more of a hybrid schedule after getting acclimated and trained)
• Potential for international travel stints. (Need to have a valid passport)

This is a Permanent position based out of Elizabeth City, NC.

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.

This is a hybrid position in Elizabeth City,NC.
