Technical Writer

This role focuses on creating, developing, planning, writing, and editing operational, instructional, maintenance, and test procedures that the SD Manufacturing team will use to perform their work accurately and consistently. The technical writer collaborates closely with users and technical experts to gather information, then translates complex engineering and technical concepts into clear, user-friendly documentation for both technical and nontechnical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Create, develop, plan, write, and edit operational, instructional, maintenance, and test procedures for the SD Manufacturing team.
• Meet and interact with various users, subject matter experts, and technical professionals to gather data and input for documentation.
• Research technical topics and translate complex technical information into clear, concise documents that are understandable to both technical and nontechnical users.
• Document engineering processes and specifications in a structured and consistent format, as needed.
• Recommend documentation formats and structures that respond to technical requirements and customer needs.
• Produce documentation that conforms to established company documentation standards and quality assurance requirements.
• Organize, track, and maintain documentation progress and updates using Microsoft Office tools.
• Gather information from engineers and other stakeholders to create meaningful build packets for manufacturing associates.
• Translate engineering knowledge into step-by-step instructions that manufacturing associates can easily follow.
• Continuously learn new processes, tools, and standards to improve the quality and effectiveness of documentation.

• Proven experience in technical writing, with the ability to create clear and accurate operational, instructional, maintenance, and test procedures.
• Experience working with engineering or technical content, particularly in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to research and translate complex technical information into documentation suitable for both technical and nontechnical users.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools to stay organized, manage content, and track documentation progress.
• Strong interpersonal skills with an outgoing nature and the ability to reach out to new people to ask for input and gather information.
• Ability to understand engineers’ terminology and concepts and translate them into practical instructions for manufacturing associates.
• Willingness and ability to learn new information quickly and apply it to documentation tasks.

• Experience in medical device environments or familiarity with medical device documentation.
• Prior knowledge of clean room environments and their operational requirements.
• Experience working in FDA-controlled industries or other highly regulated environments.
• Comfort working cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams.

The role supports a manufacturing-focused environment where documentation directly guides SD Manufacturing team activities and build processes. You will regularly interact with engineers, manufacturing associates, and other technical experts to gather information and validate procedures. Work is performed using standard office productivity tools, including Microsoft Office, to organize and manage documentation. After training and onboarding are complete, the position offers a hybrid arrangement with one day per week working from home, while the remaining time is spent on-site collaborating with stakeholders and supporting manufacturing operations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of San Diego, CA.

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $42.00/hr.
