Survey Technician
The Survey Technician supports land surveying operations across a variety of project types, including topographical, boundary, utility, and construction layout surveys. This role is responsible for collecting accurate field data using modern surveying equipment and GPS technology, and for assisting with the preparation of survey drawings and documentation that support engineering and construction projects. This position is ideal for an early‑career survey professional seeking long‑term growth in a collaborative civil engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform topographical, boundary, utility, and construction layout surveys using appropriate surveying methods and equipment
- Collect precise field data using surveying instruments, GPS systems, and related technology
- Review reports, maps, photographs, engineering plans, and drawings to understand project requirements and plan survey activities
- Accurately document and record field measurements to support drafting, modeling, and design work
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and survey team members to ensure data accuracy and timely project delivery
- Assist with survey drafting and modeling using AutoCAD and Civil 3D during office assignments
- Apply mathematical principles to calculate distances, angles, elevations, and other survey measurements
- Follow all safety procedures and best practices while working on active job sites and in varying weather conditions
Required Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience in land surveying, including exposure to:
- Topographical surveys
- Boundary surveys
- Construction layout
- Utility surveys
- High school diploma or college degree (Associate’s or Bachelor’s preferred)
- Familiarity with AutoCAD for survey drafting and plan preparation
- Working knowledge of Civil 3D for civil and survey design
- Strong mathematical and measurement skills
- Experience using surveying instruments and GPS equipment
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors in harsh or changing weather conditions
Preferred Skills & Additional Qualifications
- Drone surveying experience
- CAD drafting experience for survey drawings and models
- Ability to interpret engineering plans, maps, and technical drawings
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
- Desire to grow long term within a surveying and civil engineering career path
- Team‑oriented mindset and strong collaboration skills
Work Environment & Culture
- Typical schedule: 7:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., reporting directly to job sites for fieldwork
- Primarily outdoor work on active construction and project sites
- Office‑based CAD drafting and design work performed when weather conditions prevent fieldwork
- Collaborative, team‑focused culture with an emphasis on professional development and long‑term growth
- Regular team‑building activities, including sporting events, team barbecues, and participation in a softball league
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Armonk, NY.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
