Survey Crew Chief

Job Title: Survey Crew ChiefJob Description

This position will lead a survey team in the field, collecting data to support design activities, boundary surveying, and providing sketches and layout to support construction activities.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise to internal and external clients.
• Perform field work for land surveying scopes of work, including construction staking, boundary location, ALTA, and topography for various project types.
• Organize field staking materials as necessary.
• Operate GPS, total stations, scanners, and data collectors.
• Transfer files between data collectors and internal company project folders.
• Provide communication to the office teams regarding project status, daily progress, and issues.
• Maintain productive working relationships with clients and coworkers.
• Adhere to the company’s Safety, Quality Management, and Equipment Maintenance policies.
• Ensure division, regional, and company policies and practices are consistently followed within the survey service.
• Lead by example, displaying solid judgment, good values, trust, honesty, openness, and professionalism.
  
  

Essential Skills

• Experience in survey, land surveying, ALTA, and topographic surveys.
• Ability to effectively lead a survey crew and train/mentor survey crew members.
• Proficiency in operating total station and GPS in both static and RTK modes for surveying activities.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving history.
• OSHA 10 and CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to acquire.
• High degree of independence in performing tasks and solving problems.
• Basic 'office suite' computer skills.
  
  

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments.
• Ability to carry survey equipment and supplies in remote, rural, or urban surroundings.
• Capability to lift 50 pounds and walk long distances.
• Ability to work in outdoor conditions subject to weather, insects, and changing environments.
• An Associate’s Degree in Surveying, Engineering Technology, or related area of study.
• Experience in coordinating activities with office personnel, including surveying technicians and engineering staff.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Midlothian, VA.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $36.00/hr.
