Job Description
This Software Test Engineer role focuses on designing, executing, and maintaining test processes that verify software used in medical devices and related medical technology projects. Working under moderate supervision, you apply standard engineering practices to resolve straightforward issues, contribute to software validation and verification activities, and help ensure that complex infusion systems meet stringent quality and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute test cases for new and existing infusion system products by following established testing procedures and applying relevant technical theories and principles.
- Accurately assess test results for validity and conformance to system and subsystem specifications, and clearly document outcomes.
- Develop and maintain detailed test documentation for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clarity, completeness, and traceability.
- Trace test cases and results back to system and subsystem requirements, maintaining full traceability throughout the test lifecycle.
- Escalate issues, anomalies, and defects to senior engineers or engineering leadership when they fall outside defined parameters or require higher-level review.
- Operate within defined processes and procedures consistent with a regulated environment, adhering to applicable standards and quality system requirements.
- Analyze test results and related data for problems of simple to moderate scope, considering multiple factors to determine root causes and appropriate next steps.
- Set up, configure, and maintain test articles, test fixtures, and related equipment needed to execute test plans and procedures.
- Effectively contribute as an individual contributor while collaborating with a larger cross-functional team to meet project goals and deadlines.
- Apply sound judgment to resolve routine and non-routine testing issues, following established guidelines and seeking guidance when situations fall outside defined processes.
- Participate in technical reviews, providing input on test strategies, test cases, defects, and product quality.
- Support test automation efforts by collaborating on the use of automation tools and frameworks where applicable.
- Review and interpret error logs from software and systems to support troubleshooting and defect analysis.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of test processes, documentation, and tools to enhance software quality and efficiency.
- At least 2 years of related experience in the medical device industry.
- Experience with test case execution and reporting, including clear documentation of results and defects.
- Thorough understanding of software test principles and best practices needed to produce high-quality software.
- Experience designing and developing manual tests for complex systems and components.
- Hands-on experience with manual software testing and test case creation.
- Experience as a software test engineer or in a closely related software testing role.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret test results and error logs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to document findings and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work effectively as a collaborative team member in a structured engineering environment.
- Experience working in an Agile development environment.
- Experience in medical device software development and testing.
- Proficiency with test automation processes, tools, and methodologies.
- Experience with Selenium WebDriver or similar test automation tools.
- Experience working in virtual environments, with VMWare or Hyper-V preferred.
- Experience testing devices with embedded Linux systems.
- Experience testing platforms using IIS, ASP.NET, Web Services, Windows Services, and SQL.
- Experience with Windows Server administration, including setup, deployment, configuration, and interpretation of error logs.
- Experience working in a regulated industry such as medical devices or similar highly regulated sectors.
- Familiarity with Windows services, Windows servers, and error log analysis.
- Comfort with using SQL for validation, queries, or troubleshooting in a testing context.
- Exposure to or experience with test automation frameworks integrated into continuous integration or continuous delivery pipelines.
- Ability to participate constructively in technical reviews and provide feedback on test strategies and product quality.
The role is based in a combined lab and office environment that supports both hands-on device testing and collaborative engineering work. You work with medical device software and infusion systems in a regulated setting, following defined processes and quality procedures. Daily activities involve using test fixtures, lab equipment, and standard office tools, as well as working with Windows servers, virtual machines (such as VMWare or Hyper-V), and software platforms built on IIS, ASP.NET, Web or Windows Services, and SQL. You collaborate closely with a broader engineering team, participate in Agile practices where adopted, and operate in an environment that emphasizes product quality, stability, and long-term growth opportunities.
