Position Summary

An experienced Process Engineer is needed to support and improve electronics manufacturing operations, with primary responsibility for production process performance, equipment optimization, and technical leadership on the manufacturing floor. This position will be heavily involved in SMT assembly processes, production troubleshooting, new product introductions, continuous improvement efforts, and sustaining engineering within a high-mix electronics environment.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical lead for manufacturing processes by providing daily support to production equipment, assembly operations, and process performance initiatives.
  • Monitor and improve SMT and through-hole manufacturing processes to enhance throughput, product quality, and first-pass yield.
  • Support new product launches by developing production-ready processes and coordinating technical activities across engineering, manufacturing, and customer teams.
  • Conduct manufacturability assessments and provide recommendations during product introduction stages to ensure robust and efficient production methods.
  • Create and maintain manufacturing instructions, process documentation, and assembly standards.
  • Lead engineering change implementation efforts and maintain product configuration controls within company business systems.
  • Work closely with process, manufacturing, and test engineering teams to improve equipment capabilities, test strategies, and operational efficiencies.
  • Review PCB designs, assemblies, and manufacturing requirements to identify opportunities for improved manufacturability and process performance.
  • Investigate production-related issues using structured problem-solving techniques and drive corrective and preventive actions to completion.
  • Interpret engineering documentation, including schematics, drawings, specifications, and tolerance requirements to support manufacturing decisions.
  • Analyze production data, identify trends, and implement solutions that improve process stability and capability.
  • Support customer interactions related to manufacturing processes, technical concerns, and production readiness activities.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations, project updates, and process recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage multiple engineering initiatives simultaneously while maintaining accurate records and project documentation.
  • Utilize Excel and other data analysis tools to evaluate manufacturing metrics, process yields, and quality performance.
  • Maintain ownership of assigned manufacturing processes and ensure compliance with customer requirements, internal procedures, and industry standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent industry experience may be considered.
  • Approximately 10 years of experience supporting electronics manufacturing operations.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with SMT assembly processes and automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong understanding of electronic components, PCB fabrication, and circuit board assembly techniques.
  • Proven experience troubleshooting production equipment and resolving manufacturing process issues.
  • Familiarity with Juki SMT platforms and associated assembly technologies.
  • Experience applying Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and broader Design for Excellence (DFx) principles.
  • Working knowledge of PFMEA methodologies and risk-reduction techniques.
  • Experience utilizing Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma concepts to improve efficiency and reduce process variation.
  • Ability to validate manufacturing processes, evaluate capability metrics, and improve production yields.
  • Proficiency reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, and tolerances.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate complex manufacturing issues, interpret data, and implement sustainable improvements.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for collaboration with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for data sorting, filtering, reporting, and analysis.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
  • Comfortable interacting directly with customers and presenting technical information to various audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with FactoryLogix or similar manufacturing execution systems.
  • Working knowledge of PLM and ERP platforms supporting engineering and manufacturing operations.
  • CAM350 experience or exposure to PCB design review software.
  • Direct involvement in New Product Introduction (NPI) programs within electronics manufacturing.
  • Understanding of IPC standards, Lean manufacturing principles, Just-in-Time methodologies, and industry best practices.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and related quality management systems.
  • Exposure to AS9100, medical device, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Experience supporting conformal coating operations and related process controls.
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods and data-driven process improvement techniques.
  • Proficiency with common process engineering tools and methodologies used in electronics manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple engineering projects and driving measurable operational improvements.
  • Ability to thrive in production-driven environments while maintaining accountability for process ownership and continuous improvement initiatives.

Work Environment

This position is primarily manufacturing-floor based and requires significant hands-on interaction with production equipment, assembly processes, and engineering support activities. The role works closely with operations, quality, manufacturing, and test engineering teams to support daily production needs and long-term process improvements. Candidates should be comfortable working in a dynamic electronics manufacturing environment while maintaining ownership of critical production processes and continuous improvement initiatives.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $115000.00 - $140000.00/yr.
