Description
The Senior Chemist is a senior-level formulator responsible for leading the development of complex and innovative products. The role builds on the Chemist III position by solving advanced formulation and scale-up challenges, introducing novel raw materials, conducting competitive product benchmarking, and directly engaging with customers on technical discussions. In addition, the Senior Chemist mentors Chemist I/II/III staff, ensuring technical growth across the team while maintaining an organized, safe, and compliant laboratory environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Lead complex formula development with high technical content and/or novel ingredients, from concept to commercialization. • Design experiments/DOEs; analyze data to optimize formulations for stability, performance, aesthetics, cost, and manufacturability. • Solve advanced technical challenges related to scale-up, stability, aesthetics, or performance; define and troubleshoot process parameters during pilot and production. • Participate directly in technical customer meetings, milestone reviews, and product presentations; clearly communicate risks, technical rationale, and options. • Mentor Chemist I/II/III staff by coaching on technical methods, innovation practices, GDP documentation, and project ownership. • Conduct in-depth competitive product analysis and benchmarking to identify innovation opportunities, differentiation, and cost efficiencies. • Evaluate and recommend adoption of new raw materials and technologies; partner with suppliers to assess application pathways. • Author and maintain complete formulation records, test data, specifications, and reports in compliance with cGMP, ISO 22716, GDP, and SOP requirements. • Collaborate cross-functionally with Quality, Regulatory, Operations, and Commercial teams to ensure successful project execution and product launches. • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in formulations, process scalability, cost-efficiency, and sustainability. • Perform other duties and project tasks as assigned.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
Qualifications (Required): • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field; MS preferred. 5–7 years of formulation experience in personal care/cosmetics with demonstrated success leading advanced developments to commercialization. • Expertise in emulsions, surfactants, actives delivery systems, preservation strategies, and stability study design/interpretation. • Strong background in pilot/scale-up, process transfer, and troubleshooting in manufacturing environments. • Strong communication and customer-facing presentation skills; ability to manage multiple projects and mentor others. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office/Google Workspace; ability to learn LIMS/ERP systems; disciplined documentation using GDP. • Strong communication and customer‑facing presentation skills; ability to manage multiple projects and mentor others. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office/Google Workspace; ability to learn LIMS/ERP systems; disciplined documentation using GDP.

The pay range for this position is $95000.00 - $115000.00/yr.
