Job Title: Scientist – In Vitro Global Safety Pharmacology

Job Description

This role focuses on performing in vitro pharmacology and biological assays using plate-based platforms to support global safety pharmacology research. The scientist conducts routine laboratory experiments, maintains high data quality, and supports high-throughput screening workflows while working closely with a collaborative laboratory team. The position involves significant hands-on work with specialized instrumentation, cell culture, data analysis, and documentation in a fast-paced, laboratory-based environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine plate-based in vitro pharmacology and biological assays according to established protocols.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain specialized laboratory instrumentation, including fluorescence-based plate reader systems such as FLIPR or comparable technologies.
  • Support high-throughput screening (HTS) and assay-driven workflows to enable efficient data generation.
  • Culture, maintain, and handle cell lines for experimental use, ensuring cell quality and consistency.
  • Generate, analyze, and interpret experimental data, applying appropriate statistical and analytical tools.
  • Ensure data accuracy and integrity through rigorous quality control procedures and adherence to laboratory standards.
  • Prepare, organize, and summarize datasets, experimental results, and reports for scientific review and decision-making.
  • Use electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs) to document experiments, procedures, and results in a clear and compliant manner.
  • Collaborate closely with laboratory team members to support ongoing research activities and shared project goals.
  • Assist with transferring outsourced assay activities back into internal laboratory operations, including assay transfer and implementation.
  • Contribute to assay validation and laboratory process implementation to improve efficiency and reproducibility.
  • Follow laboratory safety procedures and maintain accurate experimental records in accordance with internal guidelines.
  • Work effectively in a high-throughput, plate-based laboratory environment while managing multiple experiments and priorities.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience performing plate-based biological assays in an industry or research setting.
  • Experience with FLIPR (Fluorescence Imaging Plate Reader) or comparable fluorescence-based plate reader technology.
  • Proficiency in operating laboratory instrumentation and associated software platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate, analyze, and interpret experimental data with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience in in vitro pharmacology and familiarity with fluorescence-based assay technologies.
  • Experience supporting high-throughput screening (HTS) workflows and assay-driven processes.
  • Cell culture experience, including maintaining and handling cell lines for experimental use.
  • Experience using GraphPad Prism for data analysis and data visualization.
  • Experience with electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs) for experiment documentation.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in biology, pharmacology, biochemistry, biotechnology, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, contract research organization (CRO), or comparable research environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and a clear commitment to data quality and reproducibility.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a laboratory team.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or contract research organization (CRO) environment.
  • Familiarity with assay transfer, assay validation, and laboratory process implementation.
  • Experience in plate-based, high-throughput laboratory environments.
  • Experience with laboratory automation and automated assay workflows.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple experiments, datasets, and documentation requirements.
  • Effective communication skills to present experimental findings and collaborate with cross-functional colleagues.

Work Environment

This is a fully onsite, laboratory-based role located in Groton, Connecticut, with onsite presence required five days per week. The position involves spending significant time in the laboratory conducting experiments, operating fluorescence-based plate readers and other specialized instrumentation, and working with cell cultures. The remaining time focuses on data analysis, quality control, documentation, and use of tools such as GraphPad Prism and electronic laboratory notebooks. The scientist works closely with a small, collaborative laboratory team in a high-throughput, plate-based environment that emphasizes accuracy, safety, and consistent experimental execution.

This is a Contract position based out of Groton, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $43.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
