Job Description

This Scientist II role sits within a discovery-focused biotherapeutics and genetic medicine organization and centers on cell- and protein-based functional characterization of antibody leads. You will design and execute in vitro, cellular, and in vivo–supporting assays to enable lead antibody identification and optimization, and contribute to stage-gate appropriate data packages that support proof-of-concept decisions. The position requires a hands-on experimental scientist with strong immunoassay experience, particularly ELISA and flow cytometry, solid cell culture expertise, and familiarity with automated liquid handling and high-throughput screening technologies. You will work in a collaborative, fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment, analyze and interpret complex datasets, and clearly communicate findings to project teams.

Responsibilities

• Conduct high-throughput antibody screening and characterization to assess binding, functional, and polyreactive attributes using cell- and protein-based assays.
• Design, execute, and optimize ELISA, flow cytometry (FACS), and other binding and functional assays to support lead antibody identification and optimization.
• Analyze and interpret experimental results, place data in proper scientific context through review of relevant literature, and summarize findings in clear, data-driven conclusions.
• Document experimental designs, methods, results, and interpretations accurately and comprehensively in laboratory records and reports.
• Present data, conclusions, and recommendations at team and project meetings, clearly communicating scientific rationale and implications.
• Perform general laboratory research competently and independently, including planning experiments, managing timelines, and coordinating resources.
• Modify and troubleshoot experimental designs, protocols, and instrumentation to resolve technical issues and improve assay performance.
• Support the expansion and implementation of high-throughput screening platforms, including assay design, optimization, and validation.
• Evaluate and help integrate novel technologies and automation solutions to increase throughput, robustness, and data quality.
• Maintain and perform strong cell culture techniques, including preparation, maintenance, and use of cell lines for functional and binding assays.
• Work on multiple projects simultaneously, effectively prioritizing tasks and aligning experimental work with evolving project priorities and timelines.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional team members in a multidisciplinary environment to advance discovery programs and deliver high-quality data packages.
• Use software tools such as MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word to analyze data, prepare figures, and create presentations and reports.
• Ensure laboratory activities follow established procedures and best practices, contributing to a safe, organized, and efficient research environment.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education with typically 3–5 years of relevant laboratory experience, or a Master’s degree in a related scientific discipline.
• Strong experience with binding assays, including ELISA and flow cytometry (FACS), applied to antibody characterization.
• Proven ability to perform high-quality cell culture, including maintenance and handling of cell lines for in vitro assays.
• Hands-on experience with automated liquid handling platforms for assay setup and high-throughput workflows.
• Experience working with biologics, including antibodies and antibody mimetics, in discovery or characterization settings.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret, and contextualize experimental data, including comparison to relevant scientific literature.
• Excellent oral communication skills, with the ability to present complex scientific data clearly in group and team settings.
• Excellent written communication skills for accurate documentation, reporting, and preparation of presentations.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and experiments simultaneously.
• Ability to operate effectively as a team player in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary research environment.
• Flexibility to adapt to rapid changes in project priorities and timelines while maintaining high-quality output.
• Competency with MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word for data analysis, documentation, and presentation preparation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with high-throughput screening (HTP screening) platforms and workflows.
• Familiarity with automation technologies and their application to assay development and screening.
• Proficiency with scientific data analysis software such as GraphPad Prism.
• Proficiency with flow cytometry analysis software such as FlowJo.
• Demonstrated interest in staying current with scientific literature related to antibody discovery, immunoassays, and screening technologies.
• Ability to independently troubleshoot experimental issues and refine protocols to improve robustness and reproducibility.

Work Environment

The role is based in a modern laboratory environment within a discovery biotherapeutics and genetic medicine organization, with a strong focus on cell and functional biology. You will work daily with technologies such as ELISA platforms, flow cytometers (FACS), automated liquid handling systems, and high-throughput screening equipment, as well as standard cell culture facilities. The position involves hands-on bench work, data analysis using tools like MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word, GraphPad Prism, and FlowJo, and frequent interaction with cross-functional project teams. The environment is fast-paced and project-driven, with evolving priorities and timelines that require flexibility and strong time management. Collaboration and open communication are central to the culture, and you will regularly participate in team meetings to share data, discuss results, and align on next steps. Standard laboratory safety practices and appropriate lab attire are expected at all times.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Worcester, MA.

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $50.00/hr.
