Job Description
The Sample Receiving Technician/Courier is responsible for the safe and timely pickup and delivery of food and environmental samples from client locations to the laboratory. This role is vital in maintaining sample integrity by performing essential temperature and quality checks, accurately documenting sample receipt, and adhering to established chain-of-custody procedures. The position involves extensive driving, with about 75% of each shift spent on the road. A company vehicle is provided for this role.
Responsibilities
- Pick up food, beverage, and environmental samples from client locations according to scheduled routes and timeframes.
- Verify sample integrity upon receipt, including performing basic temperature checks and visual quality inspections.
- Accurately document samples received, noting collection times, temperatures, and any irregularities.
- Maintain proper chain-of-custody and handle samples in compliance with laboratory and regulatory requirements.
- Transport samples safely to the laboratory while maintaining required temperature conditions.
- Communicate professionally with clients during pickups, representing the laboratory in a courteous and reliable manner.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the company vehicle, coolers, and transport supplies.
- Report any delays, incidents, or sample issues promptly to laboratory or logistics personnel.
- Adhere to all company safety policies, driving regulations, and quality standards.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to drive for extended periods and manage frequent stops.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow documented procedures.
- Basic comfort with documentation, logs, and electronic tracking systems.
- Ability to lift and carry coolers or samples up to 50 pounds.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous courier, route delivery, or laboratory support experience.
- Familiarity with temperature-controlled transport or regulated environments.
- Experience working with food, beverage, or scientific samples.
- Basic understanding of food safety or chain-of-custody practices.
Work Environment
This position requires being on the road 75-80% of each shift. Candidates should be comfortable using routing systems such as Google Maps or Waze and basic technology. The role is suited for someone who enjoys working independently. The shifts are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 12:30 pm to 7:30 pm, and Tuesday from 11 am to 7:30 pm.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Plymouth, MN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.50 - $19.50/hr.
